Lost in Refurbishing

Post by franzmerenda »

I'm perfectly aware of my OCD and I do apologise with all of You Faithful, but digging into some amazing thread on this board, sometimes I wonder:

How this spectacular restoration ended?!?

One in particular meant a lot to me, due I saw some picture and I undertook the investigation that brought me to make the mold, not to mention the astonishing (but gigantic) helm bench, custom made by Release Marine.

I’m in agreement. I follow everything I can and there is a lack of final walkthrough videos. One of the nicest est 31s is the one Bad Company has and the only thing you can find is a 30 sec YouTube short.

Francesco,

I don’t know about the first project you asked about, but the owner of the “Hei Hei” used to post here some. I suspect you’ve already found it but he posed under the name Mizerita. He posted a bit about the boat

He kept the boat down in Key West but I saw it go up for sale a few years ago after he repowered. If you Google Bertram 31 “Hei Hei“ the old yacht broker listing is out there with some pictures and a couple videos.

That is a beautiful boat. I wish I had the patience and skills to do that kind of woodwork.

Daniel,
I confirm you that I saw either, pictures and short video Mizerita posted.
He was supposed to upgrade engines, switching from gas to diesel and he promised he would have uploaded further pictures.

I do understand sometimes there are reasons that may lead somebody to changing projects and may not encourage showing the last chapter of the journey; in the meantime I think any amazing project, is quite an adventure both in the beginning and in the end.

The first project belonged to a Member of this board (BOBMX) who all of a sudden didn't post anything further of his amazing restoration!
I mean how many people did send their boat to Lookout's premises, to fitting the whole windows frame, or had Release Marine build a custom double helm bench, for a 31?
