Whose your favorite kid n why...Sailors Haven or Watch Hill

Post by Carl »

Bet you weren't sure where I was going with that. LOL.

I have not been to Sailors Haven as The Boat keeps on going to Watch Hill Fire Island. I am not sure I can blame The Boat as it is beautiful there. It is quiet, lots of space for itself "during" the week. Sure the Horseflies chip the paint as they fly in at full on ramming speed with fangs out...but is it any better at Sailors Haven, do they spray there? Did they start Spraying at Watch Hill...if neither what about the surrounding area's of Sailors Haven, has to be better not having the wildness all around. The Boat would also like to lighten the load by not having to bring dinner for every night hoping we can find a place to go out and eat. Watch Hill did have a great restaurant, then they didn't and last time a couple years ago they did again. Now Who knows...not me. Even if Watch Hill didn't have its own place a stroll over to Davis Park was a pretty good restaurant, The Casino or something, I think. We'd just needed to leave there before dusk, the Witching Hour to beat the Mosquitos and Horseflies or take beach back. But heard that place may not be open this year.

It is too late to say Long Story Short, so the question is is there a favorite between the two and any reasons? Our intention is to go Monday, the last week of July n stay till Friday-ish depending on weather. Actually weather may put the K-bash on it all if the wind n rain stick around like it did last year. May go with some friends...or by ourselves. Looking not to have to make dinner each night and prefer better then Pub food most times. We like quiet, beach...the less Horseflies the better.

Love to hear which is the favorite child and why.

If we do go It would be great if we could meet up for some beach time relaxing, perhaps a cocktail, dinner or just a quick howdy.

I lean toward Sailor’s Haven. The food at the snack bar is pretty simple when I was there several years ago. I have heard that they have expanded their menu a bit.

Let me know when you are going. My marina is just across the bay from Sailor’s Haven.

The flies can be wind dependent in either place, hit or miss. We don’t have AC or screens. Which can make it interesting.

Watchhill - if you want to be a little more secluded, calm lagoon type harbor if the weather isn’t great.

Sailors Haven - is more exposed to the bay, still a nice walk in Sunken Forest but really close it you want to walk, dingy or water taxi over to Ocean bay Park or Ocean Beach for good meals and some night life.

In the past few years Sailors has taken a bit more of a drinking crowd on the weekends, weekdays are more peaceful. You have to book through dockwa in advance now.

We will certainly come and meet you if we are around, we leave for vacation on the 24th.

Carl,

Im preparing the boat and I can admit this winter has been very tiring, between turbos, instrument panel, solars...
Anyway, as I was cleaning today I saw a 31 express just like yours a few boats away from me in the yard.
I observed the vast surface over the cabin where two 150w solar panels could easily fit.
Attach to them 3 or 4, 100 amp batteries and you will never need any other type of electricity.
Im saying all this because I envied the vast surface over the cabin which I don't have...
On another note, if you have too many flies or mosquitoes, cancel all plans and come here...no flies, some mosquitoes and a lot of fun, how much could a ticket be? Haha!
