It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of Doc Ely...... aka the happiest man on planet earth. Those who knew Doc know that he was truly one of the good guys. A regular at the UVI's, and two B31 owner, who loved fine shotguns and a good martini.
Tight lines and fair seas, Doc.

Cheers Doc! life well lived indeed. I always enjoyed a note from him on my birthday. I will have an Xtra dry in his memory.

Was lucky to see Doc in Ocean City numerous times after he quit posting.
Always happy with his mixer nearby and a Martini in his hand.
Pat, UV, Walter, Snow, Scott, Terry, Bob welcome Doc at the eternal UVI.
As always, uncle Vic wins........

Sorry to hear this.
Thinking back over the years, we have lost a number of great people. But I am sure they are being well received at the forever UVI.

Such a nice, warm guy. I haven’t seen Doc since the NJ/AC Rendezvous.

Doc and his son Doug talked me into purchasing my 31 and following this site. I loved his stories about the good old days of sport fishing, many of which were about faithful members who are also lost. I thought those of you who had the pleasure of meeting him would appreciate reading his obituary. I’ve attempted to attach a link.
Tight line and fair seas Doc,
Sean

I enjoyed spending time with Doc at a B-31 Rendevous in Ft. Lauderdale in the early 2000s, and then visited with him when he ran Xtra Dry down the ICW to Ocean Reef and over-nighted in Beaufort, NC. A fine gentleman who loved life, family friends and boating. I've met some wonderful folks through this sandbox.........
