Has anybody use'd Clarion marine speakers?

Post by Bruce »

Got a customer with 250.00 Babb marine 10" subs that didn't last 5 years.

Babb folded in 04 due to hurricane damage so they say.

Looking at a replacement 10" marine sub.

Clarion has a 350 watt 10" sub for less than a Benjamin.

Model is CMSW10.1

Any reviews?

Bruce,

I don't have anything that big in use, but I have a couple of smaller 10 inchers in my salon. They have been in operation for a couple of years and the sound is great.

I installed Clarion everything on my boat.

One amp for the upper bridge area, and one amp for the lower cockpit area. Each amp has a 10" Clarion Marine CM2503-RET subwoofer hooked to it. Also installed the clarion cd changer and satellite speakers, and remotes.

All has been in service for 2.5 years now, in the weather 12 months a year, and it all still works flawlessly. At that time the best prices I found were here: http://www.carmedia1.com/

So did the hurricane turn the stereo up too loud?

Bruce

I had Clarion speakers in my B28 that didn't last long at all. I would recommend going with JL Audio on the high end (Incredible sound and last a long time). Hands down the best IMHO marine speakers out there.

Jon is right. JL Audio is the way to go.

Bruce,
You want the JL Audio 10" subwoofer with the infinate baffle. That will perform with no backing and sound great! Cut a hole, shove it in and your rockin. It is rated for salt water use and, in checking price I got $250.00

In my opinion far superior to Clarion. No offense intended to those who have them.

Mark

Like was previously stated, higher end stuff

I have Bose in the cockpit and a powered bass tube in the overhead under the flybridge. I want to add speakers on the bridge.

I have a Polyplanar AM/FM/CD with 4 Polyplanar speakers. Unfortunately, I bought speakers that were not really rated for the power of the unit, and have blown a few of the speakers. Polyplanar replaced them no questions asked, but I think I need to move up to speakers that can handle more power. Polyplanar makes larger more powerful speakers than what I have, including subwoofers, however, after checking the JL site, I think that is the path I am going to take. Their stuff looks pretty impressive.
