Sport Fishing in 1958
Doing some cleanup in the house, we found some of my grandfather's Kodachrome slides. Here is a picture of him with a marlin that he caught on a trip to Mazatlan in 1958:

Also a picture of the boats that they were using to take the tourists fishing:

I recall seeing a "video", probably on Super-8, of him catching that fish.

That's so cool to see, that's the year I was born!
Looking for my next boat!
Re: Sport Fishing in 1958
I recall someone berating an amateur photographer for taking candid photos. He said something to the effect that if it’s worth remembering you shouldn’t need to take a picture.
Anyway, random thought, but that always pops in my head when I see really cool old photos. I am glad someone took the time to take those.
And I am glad you were willing to share them with us.
Thank you!

Great Pictures.
Good looking boats for the time and location. Had a friend who fished in Mexico a lot back in the 60's. He used to make them start the boat up before he would get on them. He was always expecting them to explode due to lack of service.

I know that back about that time period when the predecessor to Tropic Star lodge was opened I think they were using Mathews boats.

Likely those boats were locally built there, they are very similar in appearance to Hemingway's 'Pilar.'
That young at the time Captain is likely a grouchy old bastard by now, hopefully he's still around!

Great Shots
Looking at old wooden boats and thinking about how they have changed over time is always a treat.
Great memories for you.
