Bob-

Below is the email from Roddy. It has the details

Good Afternoon,

First, I’d like to thank everyone for your interest in participating in a Bertram Rendezvous this year. It has been a very interesting 2020/2021 to say the least, and I for one am very much looking forward to checking out some boats and seeing old friends. We have had an overwhelming amount of requests to host this year’s event in St Michaels MD – and have decided it was best to listen to you guys. We have been working closely with Higgins Yacht Yard to try and squeeze as many people in as possible.

We do have a few important logistical items to discuss before we get onto the good stuff. September is still high season in St Michaels, and as a result, we had to bend over backwards to persuade Higgins to host us. Higgins has requested that we commit to a two night minimum in order to not lose out on potential business due to the high season. Their entire season is based on transient dockage, that is the reason behind the two night minimum. We understand not everyone will want to do a 2 night stay, but please don’t lose interest yet! We are hoping that they may let a few one night stays slip in if the majority of our group will be staying for the full 2 nights. To clarify; that is Higgin’s decision not ours. Depending on numbers, we may also be able to arrange some overflow dockage at a nearby location to help ensure everyone can be involved. Please contact them sooner than later to make your arrangements(Their office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm)).

Now to some more details, Higgins Yacht Yard will take reservations anytime. Please just mention that you are involved in the Rendezvous and they can get you squared away. It looks like we will be able to have around 30-35 boats depending on the size ranges. They have an onsite restroom with showers. This will be first come first serve so please don't wait to reserve your spot, they can only guarantee that many slips at this time. I will be planning to arrive Friday after work and depart Sunday mid-morning. If you have any questions please reach out to me so we can work them out.

Here is a link to St Michaels if you want to do some research. For those of you who haven’t been, this place is fantastic! There is so much to do, amazing restaurant selection, ample lodging, and of course, the town is home to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.

For those of you not staying aboard, Higgins also Runs the Log Canoe Inn which is adjacent to the marina. Another Place to stay is The Old Brick Inn which is in close proximity to the marina (quick sidenote: they have probably the best breakfast in town). The beauty about St Mikes is that everything is within walking distance, downtown is literally a 5 minute walk from the marina. Check the Link for St Michaels for other Inn/Hotel Options, there are quite a few.

I will be sending out another email with some more details about the weekend as we get closer, I just wanted to give people the chance to make their reservation and block out some time on the calendar. We’ve got a couple cool ideas for this year and as always, thanks for your involvement! I cannot wait to see everybody come September. Again if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.

Kindest regards,

Roddy Jabin

i would have a 250 mile trip and i moved the location on to the Furuno screen and was alarmed to see when you travel south under the bridge to ST Michaels you run into all kinds of low water and a narrow channel. going need local help i would be arriving thursday evening 6 to 8 pm.

Bob

Its really easy. I'm guessing that the bridge you're referring to is Kent Narrows. That said, I'm happy to help anyway I can. And if you want to add just a little time and go under the Bay Bridge and see Annapolis from the water, you can run the Bay to Bloody Point Light and go through Eastern Bay to the Miles River to St Mike's

With the speed you make Bob, I would continue south under the Bay Bridge and enter the mouth of the river.

For the record I think Bob taking the boat from Long Island is a bigger trip than Yannis flying in from Greece. We can debate that over a cocktail. But either way it’s gonna be hard to find an excuse not to be there.

Doug and I ran Crows Nest from Annapolis to the Montauk rendezvous. We stopped at Charlie's house in Brick for the night, and then a few boats ran from Manasquan inlet to Montauk. Great trip.

Bob-

My buddy bought his 32 Luhrs at Lippincott Marina, in, by or just past Kent Island...it was just a few-minute ride to St Michaels.
We sea trialed and ran her home from there, I'll take the waters there over the Great South Bay any day of the week.

Only hiccup on the ride home was touching the bottom going into the Cape May Canal from the Delaware bay...we stayed right down the middle. I'd recommend hugging the ferry side of the channel. The ferries remain at idle in gear when docked pushing all the sand and silt to the other side of the channel. There was no water down the middle of the channel....then again it was late November and dredging wasn't done for a bit...at least that is what the Coast Guard told us. Nice ride.

Boy this is one event I'd like to come to, sadly can't. Spent a week every summer in St Michaels on dad's boat for 12 years. Great place back then. I wonder if it changed since last there in 74........
Have a blast.

Where is everyone without a boat staying? Everything seems to be booked, maybe a tent at the marina?

Bob, it will be awesome to see you & to me the worst part of your trip will be Del. Bay (maybe). only the last leg into St. Mic's is a little sketchy, but following the channel is easy enough. Only a few weeks away now, can't wait!
