Crimping 8 gauge wire

Anybody have a practical way of crimping 8 gauge wire?? Have tried to lcate a crimper for 8 gauge but they all seem to run 10 and upwards. Any ideas??

I just did a lot of the big battery wires on my boat and some 8 guage also. I soldered all of mine and then heat shrunk them. I have had no problems with any of the connections since I did them in October. Not sure if that is how Bruce or Pat do it but it has worked well and would like to here if I am wrong in my methods.

harbor freight and some auto places have a tool that you crimp large wire with ,it's spring loaded that you slide your crimp into and hit the top of it with a hammer..maybe be called a hammer crimper not sure.i used it making all my bonding ends..

Unless you want to spend 275.00 for the 3' crimping plyers I use, get the type you strike with a hammer.

Find a local welding shop and go buy one of there welding lead/terminal lug crimpers. I picked one up a few years back and it's a tuff little peice of equipment. Will run you around $30 bucks and last the rest of your life.

It has a V block and square head punch built into it and you use your hammer. Makes nice work out of anything, including your battery cables. You should also use an adhesive backed heat shrink over the crimp.

When evr I need to crimp a wire that big or bigger, I use my vise and then solder the darn thing. Works like a champ.
