Swim Ladder for Bertram 28 Moppie

Post by Simone »

Hello everybody!
I am looking for help to find the swim ladder for my Moppie 28.
The original model is in white painted aluminum. Does anyone know if it is still possible to buy it and where?
Thanks so much for the support!

Usually any thing like a swim ladder was an add on after delivery of the boat. I don't remember Bertram having a swim ladder option. If you post up a picture or two maybe we can help you out.

Thanks for your feedback Tony.
I think the swim ladder was sold together with the stern platform. I believe the original model was in white painted aluminum (some pictures attached); unfortunately I can't find the manufacturer on the web.
Thanks for your help.

Simone,

Are you sure you want this exact model?
I believe it is not all that practical, as it takes up half of the swim platform.
You may want to consider the telescopic one, that mounts under the platform, either on the side or the rear.

Yes Yannis, I would like to install only the folding part.
You are right about the loss of space but I would like to keep the original solution as much as possible.
Thanks for your opinion, I'll think about it again!

I agree with Yannis on considering an undermount ladder if you can't find the one you are looking for. They really clean up the platform and give back some of the lost space when deployed or retracted.

Less toe stubbing too.

That is a after market set up. In fact I have a feeling it might have been custom.

If you can not fine one, try a machine shop and see if they can copy it. Stainless you can skip the paining. If you want it white, then go with aluminum and get it powder coated.

Telescopic ladder undermounted, invisible to the naked eye...
Also, being at the side, you can have a person sunbathe on the swim platform while others use the ladder to climb onboard, without bothering them.
Additionally, you can have a fully inflated dinghy on the platform and still be able to use the ladder.

I’m not sure it’s custom as I have the exact same ladders on my 1988 Bertram33, except the swim ladder is mounted on the starboard side and the boarding ladder is on the port.

Works well in that it flips down and up easily, but those 1” round rails are tough on bare feet!

If it is not custom, then I have no idea who makes them or if they are still made. I have never seen a ladder like that.

Try Beachcomber, I think they were an O.E.M. supplier of the swim platforms and the ladders you refer to.

I did away with my similar over the transom ladder and the swim platform mounted ladder as you have in favour of an undermount ladder for a less cluttered arrangement.

High Tide Marine / Danny Piedra would also be able to advise you as to / source replacements I would think.

Thanks Preston! I will definitely try Beachcomber.
I asked Danny Piedra but unfortunately he couldn't help me.
