Bow Hatch Adjuster

Post by jackryan »

One of my Perko bow hatch adjuster bit the dust and I am either looking for a replacement Perko bow hatch adjuster, or looking to see what you guys use for that purpose. The Perko part # for their bow hatch adjuster is 0797, and they are no longer produced by Perko. I've scoured the web and can't seem to find them anywhere. Does anyone have a source for these, and if not, what part is recommended to replace the bow hatch adjuster?

Sea Dog Marine makes an 11" to 18" stainless hatch adjuster. It works differently (maybe better?) than the old hatch adjuster on the 31. Has anyone tried these: https://www.wholesalemarine.com/sea-dog ... uster.html

There are also these West Marine Hatch Adjusters: https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-mar ... 0jEALw_wcB

https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-mar ... GXEALw_wcB

I also found these on Amazon that look similar to the Sea Dog Marine adjuster: https://www.amazon.com/SeaLux-Stainless ... B016UCNWQ0

They look to be like the front window adjusters on my 25.

I found these on ebay as well, but it doesn't appear that Perko makes these any more either: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/PERKO-OEM-WINDS ... 2642444609

That's called a windshield adjuster, so not sure if that would even work.

All garbage in my opinion.

I need two to really hold up the hatch, but only had a chance to install one...fine for the dock or a nice day drifting, but I like to open a bit when running. Anyway, by the time I got around to installing the 2nd...the first was already hanging up.

I had an all chrome, then swapped out to the Perko Chrome and plastic windshield adjusters...I think they were the better crappy choice.

Sorry, I'm not much help here.

Just saw your post...I made them work, tube can be turned so attachment points lay correctly.
Not the same hole pattern of course...but I figure the more holes I drill in the boat, the lighter, faster, and more fuel-efficient it will be.

Carl,

Yea, I really don't like the old hatch adjuster, they are hard to adjust and get hung up when trying to open or close the hatch. But it would be easiest to just get another Perko adjuster due to matching hole pattern and ease of installation. Like you, right now I just have one operative hatch adjuster and, like you said, thats fine when you're at rest, but if it's even a little choppy, running with just one will not work.

I did find a few of the old Perko Hatch adjusters on Ebay, but I guess they know that they are no longer in production, because they are priced between $100 and $200 for a $30 part. Ridiculous!

Volkswagon has my motto for things like this.

Sign and Drive...

Just like when I pull up to the fuel dock...I pump till boat looks happy, hand over my card, than Sign and Drive.

Don't look at the pump price before you pull up (unless you have another local choice), don't tell them what number to stop at, don't look at the total on the receipt...Just Sign and Drive. You can figure it out another time...for now, enjoy the day in your little bubble.

Carl,

I've been doing a lot of signing and driving lately :) and I may just "Sign and Drive" in this case. I was hoping to see if others here had come up with a better option than the chinky Perko hatch adjusters. The fact that one of them is over $100 makes me want to find a better option.

Has anyone tried these stainless steel gas shock's from Boat Outfitters? They look pretty nice and a pair (depending on what size I need) is pretty close to the same price as a single discontinued Perko adjuster.

Hey Jack I bought two sets about 2 1/2 years ago didn’t seem to be that hard to find the original Perko ones. Personally I don’t like the way they work as well but was much easier with all the mounting holes. Don’t remember where I got them from maybe eBay but they were OEM Perko. Good luck

JR,

In what respect have your adjusters failed?
Perhaps you can fix them.
If they don't slide well, there is a spray that is used for making zips slide, I can see the brand when I go down.
You could send them for re-chroming too.
Are they bent?

I guess Perko stopped manufacturing them in the last year or two. When you look them up in the current Perko catalog, it says they are a legacy product, and to give them a call to check availability. I called them and the lady I spoke with said that they are not available through Perko any more.

Yannis, The old hatch adjuster broke in half, so it's not salvageable.

Carl,I've been having issues with the PM function. I didn't receive your message. It may be because my box was at 100% capacity, so I went back and erased some older messages.

I sent again.

Not a big deal to say here, my marine supplier has 3 pcs of the windshield adjusters left in stock. Items is as you know discontinued. I can get for $67 ea.
The shorter salty dogs are on backorder till July @ $16 ea
Longer ones in stock @ $19

Not much of a savings compared to eBay and I'd have to ship.

Back to expensive crap or cheap plastic crap...not much of a choice.
I recall the originals being heavy chromed brass with real knobs.

Hey Carl,

Man, Thank You for that. I think I was able to fire a PM off to you regarding this. Let me know if you got it. I erased some of the messages in my PM box and I think that fixed my problems.

Mine were pot metal, chromed over. They pitted like crazy and the adjusters just eventually became unusable.

I believe I pauud 85 a piece.
