Saturday evening run

Post by CamB25 »

Some random pictures taken during a short run Saturday evening. The running shots are at about 28 mph, 3800 rpm. Engine height seems to be good with the jackplate all the way down, but I'm no expert. The bridge is the new Topsail bridge. It has around 65 feet of clearance, so we just made it! Pipe work and upholstery is still pending...

Nice!!!! good cruising RPM / speed. What were you getting for GPH?

Perception wise how was the engine running? was she loafing around bearly working or was it at the point where the engine had some growl to it?

the only way I can describe this is that I had a old yammie 175 carbed outboard, 3400 rpm the engine was fairly quiet and sipped fuel, 3600 rpm the engine sounded a bit more lively, by 4000 rpm she growled and was drinking fuel heavily.

She seems to be most happy at or above about 4000 rpm ~ 30mph, she's riding high and in charge, but honestly I haven' t had much time for testing. Joy rides, cocktail cruises, lunch dates have been the order. The engine makes great growling noises and vibrations at all speeds Almost silent at idle, then a deep growl getting going, followed by singing. According to the Evinrude screen it is getting 10 - 15 mpg at idle speeds. 3 - 4 mpg cruising. In the 2s at full throttle with 8 people on board. Caveat: Small sample size. I haven't seen the oil gauge drop at all. It's running the XD100 oil.

I have a C115 Yamaha on my 17 Scout. Pre-mix. That engine is a screamer. The more throttle you give it, the louder it screams. It LOVES to run flat out, like all 2 strokes. It's carb'd, so it drinks fuel compared to the Evinrude.

Great numbers. 3-4mpg cruising! I get 1 at best. Maybe an outboard conversion is the ticket.
Sea Hunt Triton 207, a step down, but having fun till my next Bertram!
