Share Some Pics or Videos

Post by Tommy »

Since we are in the doldrums of the winter (at least those of us north of FL), share some pics or a video to keep us motivated. Here's one I pulled off the net of Mean Mike's beautiful 31:

Since we are sharing, this came in yesterday.

This one I had to shake his hand...I've seen alot of hits and damage, this took the cake.

It goes right up there with the work boat that backed into a sub...which soon presented a few very unhappy sailors.

He ran aground.

I'd say he ran over rocks...or tried to.

Carl

There can not be anything left of that stern area. If you do that much damage to the running gear, the bottom had to be ripped open.

He said Sea Tow took him home so boat still must have some integrity left.

I think you'd be right if it where a hard landing...but hitting a submerged rock pile going flat out may just destroy the running gear that makes contact. I really didn't want too much info

Nice

Black and white that is the way to do those shots.

Cam

Lightships were common back in the day. There was the one in the Picture, one off of Ambrose and then Barnegat. As a kid, fishing with my father on a party boat our of Sheepshead Bay, we used to see the Ambrose all the time. Then when my dad bought the house down in Forked River, the Barnegat Light Ship became a common site. Had to pass it on our way to the Hudson, or when we used to troll just North of Barnegat Ridge. It was about 12 miles off shore.

Nice Pics Peter!!!!

so I'm not the only one on the board with a collection of vintage cameras and glass. I did most of my lens/camera collecting to adapt the lenses to mirror-less digital, now I'm finding myself returning the lenses to their original cameras and using my digital to figure out exposure so I can shoot film.

I really like your pic of the cathedral roof.

While sourcing some (more) Hynautics parts over near Fishermans Terminal I took some time to wander the docks. Seattle Fishermans Terminal is the regional hub for most of the Alaska fishing fleet which overwinters here in protected fresh water and which also has most of the repair and service infrastructure not available in Alaska. In fact during summer its hard for me to get my Yanmars serviced as the mechanics are frequently on planes to do a job in Alaska, a 2 hour flight.

Some of the old timers, these guys are left behind. The active big boats are up for the winter crab fisheries, mostly crab.

ImageImageImage

And I never leave without walking over to the Fishermans' Memorial.

Destination--a crab boat lost a couple years ago with all hands. This well found and well run boat was a family affair crewed out of Seattle. It was a hard loss for the area.
Image

Scandies Rose--another well built and well run crab boat lost New Years Eve with 5 out of 7 hands. Recently Scandies Rose was berthed in Dutch Harbor but it had been around Seattle for years. I used to see it all the time. Crewed out of Seattle and Alaska.

Image

Cause of sinking is unknown but in both cases suspected to be the result of overloading with crab pots on deck which accumulated enough ice to make the boats unstable and overturn.

And a real heart string puller. A small boat, the Harvey G lost 39 years ago, still getting fresh flowers and a note, I think from his fiancee at the time. We're all older, he is still young, strong and handsome.

Image

The Memorial lists 675 names since they started keeping records. We are all fishermen.
