I am going to add a bow eye for my boat. It’s a float on trailer so I don’t need to winch it on hard but obviously it will take some forces. I bought a 5/8” SS bow eye but I really don’t like the idea of drilling a couple 5/8” holes into the point of the bow. Seems like it could lead to problems.
I’ll try to describe it as we can’t post pics but what I’m thinking is cut the threads off the bow eye and weld it to a Vee shaped plate made out of 4” x 3/8 SS similar in fashion to the one shown on this site. The SS vee will run aft maybe 10” and then I can drill a couple 3/8” holes through the side of the hull with some large backing plates on the inside of the hull. That way it will pull from a much larger surface area as the boat doesn’t have any reinforcements for a bow eye and I don’t really want to do any glad work. Thoughts?
