Quadrajet Divorced choke thermastate HELP!Hello, need help.
I had to replace the divorced choke thermastate on my Rochester quadrajet carb. Im having problems with the new one working correctly. Do you have to adjust these? Motor starts fine cold but after running it will not start due to butterflies shut do to choke thermastate pulling the buttflied down. Are they suppose to work correctly out of the package? Is the shaft that the thermostat is on suppose to rotate on the base, because I am able to rotate the coil. Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks Mike

Google devorced choke.
You will see the difference between several.
I think that you bought the wrong one and what you have is reversed.
The ones that can be bought on line are usually wrong. How do I know.
The correct one is only available from mercruiser and it is pricey.

Also it is impossible to take the pin out of the spring and turn it around.

I Have these too and have not messed with them much. I was going to replace them with my motor rebuild, but things seem to be taking a different route..
I do know that there are 2 types and I think a couple different size coils. One type opens when warm and the other closes when warm. If its pulling the choke closed when warm sound like you may have gotten the wrong one. You can heat it up with a lighter to see what your old one/new one do

I'm not sure I follow you.
Many gas motors will start and run fine without the aid of a choke when the weather is warm.

Ok, that was a joke.
I meant it’s perhaps better to solve the problem altogether.
But you know better.

gotcha- - sure I am all for fixing the problem correctly.
Just offering an alternative solution till the correct parts can be had.
Only so many weeks in our short season.

Thanks guys for your help. What is actually happening is , when I start the motor in the slip and let it warm up, the butterfly opens, its not till I run it for awhile when it gets really hot that the butterflys close. I believe the the rod that the coil is mounted to is slipping from the base thus causing the choke to close. Im going to pinch the rod tightly to the base and see if that helps. Thanks again for your help

Gotta pipe up on this one, pretty easy to tell if you have the wrong bi-metallic configuration. Disconnect rod and see which way rod needs to go to OPEN choke on carb end. Now starting with a COLD engine, run engine and see which way actual bi-metallic is going when heated. I betting it's an opposite than needed. Just a quick test for confirmation you got the wrong bi-metallic.
