Dreamsicle floats!
Not really a "splash" but she is in the water for the first time in five years and looks good. We are at the point where I needed to establish a water line to finish so in she went. Got all teary eyed as five years of knuckle busting, cursing, sweating, and frustration came to a temporary end. She has been in a shed barely bigger than she so I had forgotten how beautiful she would be at this point. Wow! Guys in the yard kept appearing from their projects to congratulate me and say, "damn, never thought I'd see the day."
Patrick, I measured the angle of the floor in the cockpit, cabin and foreward and it is between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 degrees so I guess I just forgot how she should look in the water.
Will try this weekend to figure out photo bucket so I can post some pix.
Got to run, a floating boat calls.

Way to go Mikey,
There has been more than one day that I consider naming mine PERSISTANCE. I remember my last 5 year boat project and it can bring a tear to your eye when they finally float....it's even better when they are running down the channel for the first time.
In a couple of years I hope to have a "floating Bertram story"
Congradulations.

Congrats Mikey. You first described your plans to me at Port Eads. Since then there were two other UVI's there, one in Panama, and another coming. Hard to believe that much time has passed, but a lot has happened to both of us in that period. Enjoy every minute on that boat. You've earned it! Walter

I splashed wednesday, and it feels great every year! Mikey, congrats!
Fun story...
Starboard side of the running gear had to come out to be rebuilt after the collision with the log this past fall. Story to come later. it had to be aligned pretty significantly I guess.
The side I rebuilt? Port? Myself? Dropped it in and it was aligned already within 0.002 of an inch! Now, I did not uncouple the coupling, and I know that would have made the real difference, but regardless I was proud of myself.
So I pick her up today at the yard, and then Sunday run her up to RI to have Marine Metal Fab put the new Rupps on!
Might start looking like a fishing boat sooner rather than later...

I splashed last Thursday, then flopped on Friday when I burned a hole in the top of a piston in my 440's. I tried to run too hard to a boat on fire with last years gas. I knew it was a risk . . . Oh well, at least I tried! First lesson in emergency rescue: don't break your boat trying to get there, as you are of no use then! I have the heads and manifold off and should be able to get some travellift time Mon. or Tues. to pull the motor in water. I am going to remove the mounts from the engine rather than the bunk in hopes that the alignment will be close when they go back in.

Rawleigh,
Watch the dangling modifiers. Wasn't sure whether you were running with old gas to a rescue or whether the other boat was on fire with old gas.
Hey, pal, no good deed goes unpunished.
Installing side windows and cabin sides tomorrow. Boat in water, holes again line up. Easy fix, lots of 5200 and 4200.
