Trim Tab repair

Post by Sunpacceo »

Once again I am looking to the board for some advice. The starboard trim tab came unbolted fro the bottom of my 28FB this past weekend and was hanging by the actuator. I was able to disconnect the tab plate from the actuator and it appears the hydraulic line is also damaged. My question is does anyone no how this unit was attahed to the underside of the boat and also, can anyone done any work on the tabs while the boat is still in the water?

You will probably have to pull the boat out of the water.
I suspect that the screws heads have fallen off due to galvanic action.
Did you have zincs on the tabs?
Hopefully there is enough screw still showing the they can be unscrewed with a pair of vice grips.

It does not appear as thought zincs on the tabs. The holes for the screws are larger then they should be indicating deterioration of the metal tab. Looks like the screws with head still in boat and 3 screws missing. Hose to actuator toren and needing replaced.I dont have a way of lifting the boat so in the water the work will need to be done. I guess I'll break out by snooba gear I usr for lobstering.
