Bertram20 Restoration - Australia

Post by Matt Shackleton »

Hi Patrick, I'm at the re-glass stage on my B20 restoration and want to post some pics to start trolling the site for handy tips and advice. But how do I post a photo - I've obviously done it before because of my previous posts. But can't for the life of me remember how I did it! Cheers, Matt.

Matt, sadly I have to inform you that Cap. Patrick has passed away... However, as you can see, the sandbox and the members are still here...

I hope this helps: How To Post Images and Links...

Hi Matt,
Just an FYI if you have a photobucket or drop box account you can upload your pictures and then use the direct links they supply to create a link to your photos. At least that's how I do it and I am pretty feeble when it comes to this kind of stuff. My point is any dim bulb can do it. :)

look forward to your pictures.

Righto, I've been a long time promising to do this so here goes: photos of the restoration of my B20 (so far). She is a 1966 built Carribean Bertram built in Melbourne Victoria, and some time ago brought to Perth. Her hull split coming back from Rottnest Island about 2 Easters ago, and I decided I liked the look of her so much that I would invest the time (and $!) getting her back to her pristine looks
Image
I cut out ALL of the timber in the hull, the deck and superstructure
Image
Thought I could leave the engine mounts in place but alas, when they rot, they rot everywhere.
Image
There isn't a piece of timber left in her - with GRP coated hard-foam long frames and cross members

QUESTION: I'm chossing a deck colour/texture and am looking for perhaps an original coloour (?) or someone's best experience. Marine grey or yellow is leading. Matt.

Photo bucket doesn't allow this sort of thing any more. Try Imgur.com

And of course, nothing is straightforward ....

This motor is too high if it sits on this...

So am in the process of re-engineering the front engine mount as opposed to reglassing the cross member ... TBD.

Beautiful. I love my B20. Please keep the pictures coming. I'm looking forward to seeing her rigged and ready to hit the water.

3 years to the day since this project began, first trial to test water pump, water line profile, balance eetc. She passed. Now for the 80/20 process: fixings, bow rail etc etc.

But as Sod's Law would have it, ran her up to MAX WOT and sprang an oil leak. Looks like the timing cover issue - any suggestions most welcome.
