Battery switch box area.

Post by Donmystic1 »

Has anyone modernized the area behind the battery switches?
I have cut out old unused fuse blocks and wiring that held the paper fuses.
I would like to upgrade the Port and starboard main fuses as well as the fuses for the three bilge pumps.
If you have done the upgrade what was used as replacements for the above systems?
I have lots of cleaning to do also.

Don-
I have a 31 so my set-up is a little different.
I have Perko battery switches inside the port engine box. The house bank feeds the battery switch through an ANL type fuse http://www.genuinedealz.com/anl-fuse-200-amp that is mounted very near the batteries.
I have purchased a BEP switch cluster with a DSVR https://www.amazon.com/BEP-Battery-Dist ... ery+switch but have not installed it yet.
I have my bilge pumps on a separate circuit with a breaker on the feed line and fuses for each pump.
I hope this helps - keep up the good work.

When we repowered our 31, I replaced the old Cole Hearse switches with the Heavy Duty Blue Seas. I put one on each side in the engine box. They are both located at the top corner right at the companionway on the bulkhead.

My reasoning on this is that in order to start the engines upon returning to the boat, I need to lift the box covers to turn on the switch and while I am there I can check everything.

The one for the house battery I have in the engine compartment but this spring I am moving it to go under the dinette seat in the cabin. Just easier to get at and drier.
