Attaching sunbrella cover to front windshield on a 28

Post by bertram 20 »

I am sure this has been talked about but was unable to pull up anything in search, so i am going to have a cover made for front windows and was wandering how people are securing these to the boat? are you drilling snaps into aluminum window frame or putting snaps into fiberglass? any thoughts would be helpful

Yes, drill snaps on the frame.
Next time I go by the boat I'll take pics for you.
By the way, are you sure you prefer the sunbrella to the more practical see-through, mesh like material?

Yes, snaps can go into the alum frame of windshield.

Yes, the SS and Alum will corrode.

My front wrap has bottom snaps in the fiberglass, tops are drilled into frame.

I didn't install, came with boat 25years ago.

I am not sure how it worked out for him, but John Jackson (JJ) who used to frequent this board had his front windows covered with Eisenglass so he see out of them. Last time I saw them it was in 2008 when he had just had them done. Not sure how they held up.

Maybe if you search out his name and send him a PM he might respond.

I have the clear plastic on my flybridge enclosure... It was put up 18 months ago and it still looks new...

I have these on my 38 where they were easily hideable they have been bulletproof for the last year since they were installed. Just an idea.

I will say the mesh is sweet. Lets the right amount of light in and looks good too in my opinion, this is what mine looks like.

I have the original front window cover that came with my 28; the snaps are mounted to the aluminum.
