Re: Capt Pat.
Gentlemen: I've only been in the 31 family since 2010, but Captain Pat clearly led the community with great distinction. Despite what any newbie might have asked, he never condescended. I will raise a glass on board Girl Friday to him this evening.
Re: Capt Pat.
Bruce, Patrick's family, and everyone else in the sandbox, my deepest condolences. I too am at a loss for words. The conversations, the knowledge, and friendship we shared during the several times he would stay at my home before traveling to the Rendezvous, will always stand out as cherished moments of my life. Today there is another large gap in my heart that will never be filled.
Rest Well and Fair Skies Capt. Patrick

Re: Capt Pat.
We all lost a very dear family member today.
My condolences to Capt. Pat's family.
We all have a huge void in our hearts. We have lost a great man. He influenced us all to be better at what we do and who we are. As has been said a true Renaissance man. We're would we all be today without him.
Every time I look at my boat I will be thinking of him and my father.
May he always look down at us and keep us safe at sea.
Capt. Pat may God bless your soul. You are now in afar better place.

Re: Capt Pat.
We were out on the Bertram today; my two boys, wife, my parents and my sister and brother in law. Anchored up in the bay on our '31. Anchored up doing some clamming and one of many great family fun trips. Bob Lico was so thoughtful to leave me a msg that I picked up while we were out. I took some time to reflect on the blessing Pat brought us.
What he has created is a true blessing in our lives.

Re: Capt Pat.
Very sad to hear that Patrick has passed on. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
I didn't have the good fortune to meet the Capt in person, but I can't even begin to describe the help he has provided hundreds of aspiring enthusiast like me. He never spoke down to anyone (even when they deserved it), always encouraging and willing to help. I was only scolded once by the Capt.. my crime was being in his area and not stopping by for a visit, which I really regret at this time, my loss.
God speed Capt Patrick, you will be sorely missed.

Re: Capt Pat.
Thanks Randall,
You more than anyone understood the artistry of Pats talent.
What most people don't know is the extent of his master goldsmith talent. He designed and made pieces for some of the most exclusive jewelers around such as Harry Winston to name just one. There are magazine articles I've seen, and will be part of a tribute to him later on, that floored me.
Like yourself, his humbleness is a noble character trait one rarely runs into anymore.

I'd love to see more of his work as a goldsmith, he mentioned in passing of his prior career and only offered a few glimpses into it when pressed. Humbleness is a virtue, but it is such a shame he did not share that aspect of his talent as freely as he shared his talent of boat building.
i am always awestruck by an individual that can see the final picture, every aspect before starting and hold true to that vision to the end.

Re: Capt Pat.
Bruce,
Few people know how close you were to Patrick, whether it was delivering boats for ungrateful owners in the old days or building then riding your Harley's to a rain soaked bike week in Daytona( hiding under overpasses between downpours). I spent many hours talking to him and you about Bertram's, computers, guns and Carolina Boats, and trying to avoid the Riviera Beach Grobeak's breaking into our trucks. I can still picture him sitting on the bench at the Flop House talking with Uncle VIc, smoking butts and drinking a cold one. He was a true gentleman and I am going to miss him as much as you are. my condolences to Patrick's family in Texas and to you and Shirley. Call me when you get a chance at 561-310-7179 my phone dumped most of my stored numbers including yours.

Re: Capt Pat.
I had the most wildly vivid good bye dream about him last week, but did not want to say anything about it until now. We had a good bye party for him in some boatyard, and many of you were there. I remember having a group hug with Pat and others. My right arm was over Pat's shoulder and his left arm was around my back. I turned to look at that weathered face and both of us unashamedly had tears in our eyes. We knew we would not meet again in this life. It is amazing how someone so far away and that you only meet a couple of times can have such an impact on you. See you on the other side old friend! Rawleigh

Thoughts and prayers to Cap't Pats family and friends. Very sad news
Re: Capt Pat.
Thank you Bruce, thank you Mike. My thoughts are with Pat's family, and friends, many of which are on this site. Just seeing this notice now, as we were finishing 7 days away, on our 31. Yesterday's 5 hour run home was one of the nicest, calmest mornings I can remember....hmmm....wonder why.
I've been to a number of Fire Fighter line of duty deaths, and the one overwhelming thought is that while the accolades and gestures of sincere sympathy at the time of loss are truly great support for family and friends, the real tribute is what we each continue to do in our lives. Pick a project on your boat, help another Bertram owner out, help Bruce et al with this site - it doesn't matter what, just do something as Pat would have done it and think about him when you're doing it. That is what keeps great people like Pat's legacy living on.

Re: Capt Pat.
I had nothing to do with it.
Re: Capt Pat.
Patrick's influence will live on for many many years. I was just looking at the new pictures of the B35 and thinking that there is something there as well. Patrick has had a huge influence in hundreds of stewards keeping their 31's in good shape and on the water. Without a doubt he is the reason the 31 has had a prolonged audience. Without that, the new 35 investors may not have had the confidence to invest and launch in this reincarnation of the 31.
