Two gas V-8's ?
This guy must have an uncle in Saudi Arabia...

I agree though, very cool ! It would also be very efficient in our kind of wavy seas.

Small correction, the one's sold to Israel were NOT turned into gunboats... They were used by the Israeli navy's version of SEALS... I know where one of the hulls lies... Completely stripped...

I wonder if she was the old Surf Rider. I thought the ones built for racing had two wheels. I guess they took one out.

Tony, I saw the old Surfrider for sale on one of the boat sales boards several years ago and it still had the racing cuddy cabin with two helms side-by-side. It was in pretty rough shape so I'm sure this is a different boat.

Tommy

I mentioned Surf Rider, as I just came across some old information on her. I was going through some old Bertram stuff I saved and found stuff from about 20 years ago. The info I have shows that she was owned by an older gentleman out on the west coast, I think Washington. He was putting her up for sale as he was getting on in years.

She had the two steering wheels but I think what was pretty cool is that she had a scoop built into the hull that could be opened to either let sea water in or out of a ballast tank. The water entered under the force of forward movement and she let water out, from the suction created from moving forward. That was used to trim the boat as the fuel depleted.

He had indicated that he had put in a teak deck. That is why I thought it might be Surf Rider. I am sure they did not come through with teak decks.

I wonder if the boat listed here has the ballast system.
