Cormorant Princess moving out
We left Shinecock about 10 o'clock in the morning and went to Ocean City Maryland where we were stuck for one day because of weather .then we were at on the outside to Hatteras then the next day we went to Wrightsville Beach then we went to Charleston that we went down to Jacksonville then to Stuart Florida then we crossed Lake Okeechobee came out Fort Myers continue go to Naples six days of running and all we did was tighten one belt. In Wrightsville Beach we ran into rapscallion and then in the middle of nowhere on the canal on the intercoastal we run into bucktail only In a 31 Bertram.but will be living in Naples most of the time and we're going to be using it to go offshore fishing down in Cuba once we get our visas. After checking the fuel we found out that we could run 30 kn for 16 1/2 hours before we run out of fuel.i'm not sure if any other 31 Bertrams made it all the way from Long Island to basically the bottom of Florida in six days without any kind of repairs oil filters or any thing Else . Not too shabby for a 49-year-old boat.

Brew,
If you will be near Marathon let me know. I have dock space if you need it or just want to swing by to say hello and get supplies. Grocery is at end of street.
Sounds like a great run so far.

Brewster,
Your right, not bad at all for a 49 year old boat...
But also says quite abit about the stewards upkeep of boat and motors as well as the Captain and crew running it.
Nice job...can't wait to hear about Cuba.

Sounds like you had a safe and uneventful trip. That doesn't happen by itself. My compliments to the Capt., crew, and of course the Comorant Princess. Looking forward to posts about Cuba.

actually it`s all about the most sophisticated electronics you have ever seen more then you would have on a 100' ocean going yacht! he can see a beer can floating at 500 yards away at night in a dense fog at 30knt. you have no idea just need a liter of Patron no rations and he could go to South America.

Epic trip, and great job.....wish i had done the same on Shearwater. Waiting to hear some installments from "Fear and Loathing" in Cuba, I am sure this will be an interesting saga all the way.

30kn cruise? Holy smokes- what kind of power is in that boat? I'm new to the game, but our boat cruises at 20kn w 600+ hp. That's impressive!

you know the old saying "be careful what you wish for" i have a knot or two on brew with a fbc but i cannot do 20 knots (drags and falls off plane) i also do 5 to 6 knots at idle . people just love you coming up the river in 5mph zone.

Bob-
I get the high idle speed part, but why does she fall off plane? Crows Nest will plane at about 13 knts (8.2 Detroits). Anna E (454s) also planed off at around 13 knts.

Re: Cormorant Princess moving out
john the props are raked to keep the bow up consequently the boat levels off at 22knots thru 34 knots .the bow use to start going down at 37 ( very dangerous condition) .i have detuned props in 5 steps to bring wot. to 33- 34knts. and the good news was fuel economy took a dramatic increase at 28knts. however all the experimenting in the world never changes idle speed even through engine idle speed is set 50rpm less then minimum rpm recommended by cummins.

We have been researching the Cuba trip also, so far there are many obsticals,I wanted to send my captain, mate on my plane to find out more about secure mooring, fuel ,fishing seasons/territories, advised not to attempt yet, don't want to donate the plane or my boat to the Cuban govt, keep me posted on your efforts, could meet up in Havana
Re: Cormorant Princess moving out
Marlin, I would love to crew for you (extra mate) if you are able to put the Cuba trip together at some point. We had a discussion on this Board about 13-14 years ago about the possibility of a Bertram 31 rendezvous to Cuba if relations were ever normalized; especially since most of the workers and craftsmen at the Bertram plant in the early years had fled from Cuba. I agree with you, though: not worth forfeiting your equipment to a corrupt crowd. It will be good to get a full download from Brew.
Re: Cormorant Princess moving out
flying aircraft in cuban airspace is still a no-no.if you are a little off course in a f-16 from homestead AFB to Cuba thats one thing but in a private plane your in trouble!

Re: Cormorant Princess moving out
A big get together would be incredible when relations are fully normalized. You can count me in for that one.
Had no takers on the last bahamas trip. Maybe Cuba will bring more interest.

Re: Cormorant Princess moving out
On Friday, September 18 the White House restriction released new rules surrounding travel to Cuba as part of the new rules person struggling to keep it will now be able to do so by Vessel whether for hire or recreation this puts boating on parity with other forms of transportation when It initially was restricted to air travel troubles will still follow Guidelines like to travel purposes however you know announcement was moment to step forward for the boating industry . We're going over other humanitarian visa so we can give baseballs and baseball gloves to the poor of course after we're done doing that was going to go fishing for 10 days
Re: Cormorant Princess moving out
