Mixing Elbows for 6BTA's
Can anyone educate me on mixing elbows. I currently have stock but am in need of a new one. I have heard of some overstock deals out there as well as custom made options. Cummins list for one is $2600. Any sources for custom made or after market stock?
Thanks,
Bill

All of you need to talk to Tony Athens at
sbmar.com
Either custom or stock. But the bigger question is why you need to replace. Also, fresh water flush after each trip will greatly increase the life of mixing elbows.

Tony will make the stock cummins look cheap $... They don't last forever, it's a maintenance item... Contact Paul...

Bill - what you are saying has started to come to light in the last 24 hours. I have been in an email dialog with Tony for a month or so. It has taken me time to educate myself and get back and forth to the boat to get pics for him... i finally got him the last pics yesterday and this morning he is basically saying my turbos are too low.
Whaler - custom risers will be about $6k thru SBM but with that comes the satisfaction of knowing its done right.
The other option is to wing it and try to get something made that gives me a little rise without re-inventing the wheel. I have 10 years on a rebuilt 1990s block under the current configuration although the exhaust side of the turbos will not win a beauty contest.
does anyone with risers on a 6BTA have some pics they can post? would love to see how much room I have to work with.

Ouch... $6000.00
I got a quote of a little over 3k up here and it shocked me a bit so I went out, bought a high end miller multiprocess welder, learned to tig and made my own exhaust...

UPDATE:
went with a custom version of the stock elbows from Marine Manifold on LI. they were about $625 a side and very easy to work with. Thanks for the tip Whaler. Bill

Re: Mixing Elbows for 6BTA's
i designed the original nine years ago to fit a 31 bertram engine box and gave the template to Paul to keep for future Bertram 31 builders . they are on my boat nine years and look like the day they were installed.the key here is two functions one to eliminate the need for a surge tube and most important the raw water falls in a perfect circle because the sprinkler head is exactly vertical so water is evenly distributer around head this form is evident under WOT. a perfect circular flow of water shoots out for 5 feet from transom. (Carl note # 14) use 6" all the way from sprinkler head to transom exit and you have 0 ----HG. exhaust back pressure.worth a few HP.

Re: Mixing Elbows for 6BTA's
i rolled the port side forward to create 70 degree angle made from 316 ss to eased the exhaust flow from 90 degrees then use the same idea for port side.this design works real well for longevity of sprinkler head and performance increase over OEM. cummins which has a hot sport due to 30 degrees from horizontal operation. i shared the design with whaler and will also have 20 years of no problem sprinkler head.
