Trilux 33 compatible/replacement?

Post by Stephan »

Gentlemen-
I've left buying my bottom paint to the last minute and am now finding it hard to source Trilux 33 in green by the end of the day tomorrow. All the blue, black, red and white I could ask for but no green at Jamestown Distributors, West Marine, Defender, etc.
What would be a good replacement?
Thank you,
Stephan

Isn't Trilux 33 for aluminum bottoms?

I use the Micron Extra...comes in green. But would call Interlux before laying one over the other...assuming trilux 33 is already on hull.

You can try Lewis Marine...

Absolutely ignorant question, so excuse me in advance............can the white Trilux 33 be tinted green?????????

Aren't the coloured anti-foulings tinted from a common 'base' regardless???

Tommy you got any of that time on your hands to help me out on this one????

Stephan,

You might try Petit Kopecoat Vivid Bottom paint... It comes in several shades of green. http://www.boatstore.com/vivid-antifoul ... medium=ppc

Cap,

Cheers,my curiousity was whether the White Trilux 33 bottom paint could be tinted green - Stephan's search for Green Trilux 33 got me wondering what's the difference and surely the different colours are just the same 'base' tinted to whatever different colour???

No doubt all the paint manufacturer's/reps would say the different colours are proprietary secrets and that tinting their paints yourself would cause the hull's bottom to fall out or aliens to grow on the hull!

Preston,

Almost all paints, (house paint, model paint, you name it...) are colorized using a neutral base, not white. The colorant is an additive material and, in the case of anti-fowling paint, would probably do nothing to block any marine growth. When you try to color a white paint, the volume of colorant needed to reach the desired color would be vastly greater than that needed for a neutral base of the same paint.

Let the guys who formulate paints do their thing. No sense in you experimenting on your boat...

Patrick
