20 Bahia Mar Seating

So last fall I finally purchased a 1968 20 Bahia Mar. The boats in great shape:









Does anyone have any suggestions for seating options on either side of the engine box? I've been looking, but I can't seem to find anything that knocks my socks off.

A lot of that depends on what you do or want to do with the boat... For example, if you're going to be fishing you want the area at the stern clear... If you were me I'd go with bean bags... Comfortable and versatile (as you can easily move them around)...

No fishing. Just using it as a run-about. I know there were seats as an option as another boat I looked at last summer had them.

What a great condition she's in !

I'd put some serious anti skid on the aft gunnel (tape or teak) as I know how tricky this morning mist can become. Especially when your hands are full carrying things.

I'm meeting the canvas guy tomorrow for a mooring cover.

Was also planning on going to the Providence boat show tomorrow for some seating ideas, but it looks like its going to be shitty out.

I am a big fan of dual purpose seats. I would look for two coolers that fits between the engine cover and the topsides and make a cushion for it or have a fab shop make up aluminum boxes with top loading or front loading doors painted and a custom cushion on top. I have also seen where someone puts a bench seat right over the engine cover from gunwale to gunwale to make a high bench.

When I had my 20 Bertram back in the 80's I had small jump seats next to the engine boxes. They were attached to the sides of the engine boxes with a piece of 2x4 teak and attached to the side of the inner hull with the same teak system. They fit nice and snug almost a pressure fit, they had a back piece and a seat that was connected by an aluminum flat stock. The seats were similar to the helm chairs on the fly bridge of the early 31's, the backs folded down onto the seat bases. I am not sure but I think they were made by Pompanette. The other solution would be a bolster piece that goes across the inner transom so you could use it as a back rest for the seats and just get some seat bases made up at a local canvas shop, make them so they side into channels on the engine boxes and the side of the inner hull.

That's what I had in mind. I didn't know if someone had an original pair hanging around that they wanted to sell.

I noticed in the picture that the fiberglass insert that fits across the back of the motor box and behind the seats is missing. If you don't have it,it's easy enough to make a new one out of Coosa board. The seats that I had were made by Todd, not Pompanette. I found a couple of old pictures that showed that they did not fold down. The backs and bases had 3/4" tubing for the 4 legs and 2 back connectors. They were attached with teak cleat type material. White vinyl/foam backs and bases.

I just put mine up for sale. About 4 years ago
I bought from Walter K his jump seats for his Bahia
I still have them as purchased. He thought
they were original .. They're kind of cool
I like that they can be folded and fit the space
perfectly
