'65 nova stalling

Post by coolair »

My dad has a '65 nova 2 door all original(was actually my great grandmas car) 283,power glide, power breaks, power steering and factory Ac.
The car has been sitting a while and my dad just replaced the carb. Starts and runs fine but the minute you put it in gear it dies. I have my ideas, but what are your Thoughts??
Thanks
Matt

Wild guess..... Transmission is locking instead of slipping. Put it in gear, it kills the engine.

Torque converter was my thought, but before we drop the transmission wanted to get a couple other opinions.
Thanks

Hi Matt,
Nice year Nova! Small light and fast.
Dies like letting clutch out too fast on a manual, or rumbles, rough, then dies? If dying in short time, yeah tranny I'd look into.
