Re: Wits End
Thank you for the kind comments concerning Wits End. My son, who grew up on the Wits End, including attending many years of the great NE Rendezvous, was fishing with his friends. Wits End is docked in East Hampton NY. My son's picture is on the Website in the Offshore Magazine article reporting on t...

Re: Cummins 6BTA 300 HP-Wits End-Emergency
I was not there when the events unfolded. My son indicated that the throttle was at cruise 2,200 RPM. After a few minutes the RPM's of the starboard engine dropped after some metal "clanking". The engine still idled but would not spool up. The boatyard first indicated that it could have been the fue...

Cummins 6BTA 300 HP-Wits End-Emergency
Within an hour of being in the water on the way to Montauk NY from the North Fork, the starboard Cummins (1989) of Wits End commited suicide. No compression at all in No.1 cylinder. If anyone has an idea concerning how I can locate a short block or a replacement engine, please let me know. I can be ...

I just installed Airsepts on my 1989 300 hp Cummins 6bta engines with 2k hours. While the Walker instructions were helpful, I had do do some improvising as to the oil return to the crankcase. Instead of returning the lines directly to the crankcase, I am using the oil removal suction tube convenient...

We are in either way
Tom,
We look forward to another trip and seeing your family.
Port Judith works for us, although Montauk (Star Island) is now where we have moved Wits End for the year and perhaps forever. Let us know what the overall plans are for your August travel.

NY Sales Tax
I received the same NYS letter requesting sales tax proof. The NYS letter alleged that the state of NY had discovered the 31 in a marina--yada, yada, yada. The interesting point for me was the 31 they were requesting info on had been lost off Cuttyhunk Ma over 5 years ago, so the contents of the let...

Brewsters serves by far the best fish and has the prices in the Hamptons. I agree, the next NE Rendevous should be in Brewsters neighborhood.

Some of you who attended the Montauk Rendevous, that Wits End has a smoking problem. She is running 2 300HP 1989 Cummins 6BTAs with 1700 hours. I blamed most of the problems on fuel or air cleaners. At Montauk it was suggested by many particularly Capt Pat and Walter that I go with the S&N air filte...

Walter,
The lesser wire to the solenoid harness from the ignition failed coupled with ongoing harness connection deterioration. I suspect it took both occurances acting simultainously for the solenoid to fail.

6BTA Starting Issue
The starting issue was solved. He immediately identified the problem as being the shutdown solenoid. Andy suggested that if ...

I tried everything, from checking the fuel tank, Racors, fuel lines, hoses for leaks and bled both the low speed and high speed fuel lines, as well as the injectors in accordance with the Cummins shop manual.
