Todd,
I just read your second post (like I should have done in the beginning) but the offer still goes.

Re: ilwaco WA
Todd, We have a family home in Ocean Park, 11 miles up the peninsula from Ilwaco and drive through Ilwaco to get there. I am in northern California, but my sister and Brother in law will be there next week end. I'm sure he would love to look at the boat for you. Do you have a list of questions? Do y...

Re: Width between shafts
My boat is a 1969 that came with 3208 cats. It is on a trailer so it is easy to measure. 56.250 center to center.

Re: how to repower with diesel with out a trace of diesel sm
Bob,
I wondered when you would publish "Bertram 31 Diesel Swaps for Dummys" and now I know. I have been down loading your pearls of wisdom for years, so that if and when I get off my fat ass and start to redo my 31 I will have some guidance. This just what I needed, Carry on.

Re: Newbie just got my new toy and have paperwork questions
Wayne, My 31 has California registration, and was previously documented. The DMV used the documentation number as the HIN number. Some one sistered a piece of wood next to the inboard stringer under the starboard engine and carved the documentation number into it. (Shades of old wooden boat document...

John, upon rereading your post I see you already placed an order. Sorry about late heads up. All those molds sound interesting though.

Re: Fuel Tank Quote Feedback Please
John, I just looked at Alex Whitaker's site and he has three fiberglass tanks for sale as well as everything else. I don't know what's going on down there but it appears as though he is selling out. He has 2 31's for sale and all his molds. This may be a way to go, although the bigger tanks are more...

Re: Starter spining backwards or....
It seems to me that there should be more shaft showing between the teeth and the casting. If there is no Bendix solenoid then there are threads inside the teeth that centrifugal force throws out towards the fly wheel. There should be a retracted state that makes the teeth have clearance from the fly...

Re: Can't find U-channel
Rocky, I assume your fabricator knows this but for general information you need to stress relieve 6061 at the bend line. It is most likely T6 and will crack on the outside of the radius if it is to be fairly tight, which I assume it should be to match the engine stringers. The easiest way to do this...

This is my first time on the Forum but I read it all the time. It is the most informative thing I read. Real answers from mechanically sharp people with real world experience. I'm on the west coast and have seen Alex Whitaker's glass decks, engine boxes, etc. They look like quality products to me. W...
