Craig, I found out that E&T Plastics has a location in Dallas. I was wondering what thickness Makrolon did you use? E&T said to use either .060 or .080. Thanks in advance. John. John, I'm not sure, but I will try to measure it tomorrow when I go to the yard. I'm thinking it was thinner than that, l...

I used a poly carbonate called Makrolon, which is made by the Bayer company. This stuff is amazing! It is very thin (not sure of exact thickness, but I probably could measure it). I have a 31 Bahia Mar with a hard top. The Makrolon is sewed to canvas that slides along a track for easy removal. I alw...

OK, thanks. I will clean it up and re-mount it tomorrow as opposed to glassing the holes in. I am on a roll eliminating holes in the boat. I just eliminated two seacock/thru hulls for sink drains, a drain plug in the bottom of the hull, and a large transducer that wasn't being used anymore which had...

what are your thoughts on tying it into the stainless steel marlin tower to act as a lightning rod to ground as well?

When you say all the grounds, do you mean the bonding system also?

So if I re-install it, should I hook it up to the bonding system even though I have a transom zinc? Or should I attach it to my stainless steel marlin tower as a ground for lightning protection? Or just not use it and fill in the holes?

Thanks guys. It would appear that it is a grounding plate for lightning protection. After doing some research though, that grounding plate is not really adequate for lightning protection. I think I will just leave it off and fill the holes.

metal plate on bottom of boat

Does anyone know what the rectangular metal (might be copper or bronze) plate is for on bottom of hull. On my Bahia Mar, it was located just to the starboard side of the bottom of the hull forward of the engines. It fell off while sanding the hull. It appears to have only been holding on with some R...

My 1968 Bahia Mar spent most of it's life in Italy, and was restored in 1995 by Senagi Boat Works in Italy. I have metric shafts, Vetus hydraulic controls with metric lines, and an Italian refrigerator that still works among other unusual but nice features. It has twin 1995 Merc 454 EFI MPs. I concu...

I'm glad to see more guys coming onboard with their hull numbers. Great idea Steve. Harry, where exactly did you find that tag glassed in your hull. All I've been able to come up with is the # 664 written with magic marker on the top inside of my port engine box. It is registered as a 1968, so it wo...

Good idea John, maybe I'll write 787 all over it to entice Boeing to hurry up and start deliveries of the Dreamliner. I kinda like my boat anyway, so I guess I won't trade.

Charlie and Bertramp,

Based on mine which is registered as a 1968 hull# 316-664 (I found the #664 written inside the port engine box), I would say that hull #757 is not a 67, but at least a 68. I wish mine was #757, I fly Boeing 757s for a living. Want to trade? :-D

John, I just went and measured my helm seats. They are both 36" tall from the floor to the top of the aluminum structure (bottom of seat cushion). They are definately original consisting of U shaped extruded aluminum from the floor up to an aluminum rectangle that the cushion sits on welded to the U...

Hi Mat, I'm guessing you #854 is a 1969 or 70 model? I'm trying to figure out if the #664 I found inside my port engine box is the hull number for my 1968 Bahia Mar. Are there any other 1968 hulls out there that might bracket that number? Thanks....Craig

My FL registration number does not conform to the numbering system used by the factory. I did find the number 664 written inside my port engine box when I re-did the soundproofing. It was written on the bare fiberglass with a magic marker. Is there really such thing as a tank sticker? I thought that...

I have Mercruiser 454 EFI MPs on my 31 Bahia Mar. In smooth water, I cruise 20 kts typically turning 2400 to 2600 rpm depending on how heavy it is. I don't have fuel flow guages, but if I zero out my GPS trip odometer when I top it off, it will usually take about the same number of gallons as the tr...

I just looked at Steve's (Bertramp's) 31 Bahia Mar and saw the placard inside the transom. Mine doesn't have anything there, just the number 664 inside one of the engine boxes. Does anyone think that number would sound sequentially correct for a 1968 model year :?:

Hi, the only number I found on my boat was inside one of the engine covers when the insulation was replaced. The number was 664. Does that sound right for a 1968 Bahia Mar? If that seems right, I guess it would be 316-664. Any other ideas on where to find the numbers on a Bahia Mar?
