Re: Yanmar 6LP-STP Heat Exchanger
So the fix is being attributed to the heat exchanger, exhaust manifold or both. Been a long road for you, my fingers are crossed this is the last of it and you get to enjoy for a good while. Turbo Exhaust Manifold Heat exchanger Its only $10k to fix a coolant leak. At least the turbo and manifold h...

99.9% the issue is solved. Ran the boat today and for the first time I see the coolant above the "full" mark on the plastic tank when the engine is hot. Need to wait until it cools down but this is a good signal.

Replaced the heat exchanger, drained the whole block from the coolant, flushed everything and filled it back up with water and uv dye. Ran the engine for about 1.5 hrs at idle at the dock and this is what was happening. Up to now I've added about 1/2 of the plastic bottle. I'm hoping this is just ai...

Re: Yanmar 6LP-STP Heat Exchanger
Removed and pressure tested the heat exchanger today to 90 psi and it did not leak. I'm running out of options here. I looked into the old engines and saw that behind the oil cooler (which the 260's don't have) there is a coolant line with 2 clamps and also there are 2 freeze plugs behind the flexpl...

It never went above 5.5 psi and when I removed it after the engine was cold there was no coolant missing to I connected the plastic overflow tank back to the engine and filled it up to the full mark. New headache (generator)
In february's trip I started seeing some oil on the generator's drip pan as it was running non-stop for 3 days. This past weekend it leaked more oil so decided to remove the generator to investigate. I though it was the rear main seal but discovered today that the issue is the head gasket. What I fo...

Re: Yanmar 6LP-STP Heat Exchanger
Micky I'm not sure what the issue is here. If the engines are not overheating what I'm reading is just normal level fluctuation in the overflow tank and the expansion tank. When my 6LP's were new to me I kept peeking into the expansion tank and seeing it was a little low, trying to add coolant. Who...

Re: Dissapearing coolant
Micky How much did you lose? If it was a head gasket, I would suspect that you would see steam coming out the exhaust and possibly milky oil. Exhaust Manifold is always a possibility, or you have a leak somewhere. No milky oil and both engines steam while running if its early morning. During the da...

3/4" - 1" down on the reservoir.
I'm going to remove the exhaust manifold once again and pressure test it to 20-30 psi and while its pressurized I'll heat it some with a torch to see if the pressure goes down.

After replacing the turbo (it had a pin hole) coolant level is still going down. I'm thinking its the exhaust manifold as the coolant level only goes down after running the boat and cooling off. Bilge is completely dry.
