Bertram 20 project

I posted this a while ago and got a few responses, but no one seemed to want her. She's been a great boat, and I've started the tear down (see my posts on her rebuild). She's been the best boat ever, but as I mentioned, I inherited my late Dad's Edgewater 22 that's a nice boat and that my better hal...

Re: Anatomy of a Bertram 20?

Mine was converted to a transom mounted O/B and as far as I can tell, there’s no double hull like you’re finding. I’ve put a thru hull transducer in, and the bottom of the hull was solid f’glass. The 20s do have a wood covered in glass back bone down the keel. Good luck on your project. I have way t...

Our slot on the Bay is 19"-24." I don't troll unless there's a shot at big bass, and we haven't seen big (40" or so) fish mid-Bay in quite a while. I'm primarily a light tackle guy, and the fishing here has been great. Big schools of 22-26" fish feeding on top hitting plugs. I usually fish from the ...

Oversized rudders are an essential upgrade for the 31. I got mine from Bobby Soles Propeller in West Palm Beach. I believe that they used Captain Pat's design. (Others please correct me if I am wrong.) Based on the drawing that they sent me the overall length of the blade i6" long, maximum width 10...

Crows Nest had the fiberglass overlay glassed onto the front windshield before Doug bought her in 2002 or so. I glassed over a couple minor surface cracks when I painted her 10 years or so ago, and glassed over and finished the laminate covering the inside. Long and short, yeah, I’d rather have the ...

I redid the frames, and had Maritime Plastics in Annapolis do my windows on the Anna E. All of ‘em. Fronts, curved sides, and big flat side windows. I can’t imagine doing the curved sides. Interestingly, they had to recut one of the front opening windows. They used one side as the pattern and cut bo...

Bertram 20 Rebuild

I'm hoping I can get a lot of advice from this group given all the great rebuilds I've seen. I bought my B20 about 15 years ago. It had been converted to an outboard, and the 1994 Yamaha ran fine. The deck and stringers were wet--really wet--but I figured I'd run it until the motor crapped out. Duri...

Re: I'm curious about the speed ...

Whenever I look for a "new" boat, I check at what speed I can get it to plane off. I've been out too many times when 13-15 knots was as fast as was comfortable, and I don't want a boat that's wallowing around trying to get over its bow wave at those speeds. Same with my B20--it'll plane at about 13 ...

A transmission flange to coupler bolt sheared on Crows Nest. I’m guessing that the bolts have been on there at least 18 years and are pretty corroded. They’re not stainless. Can I use stainless and locknuts for replacements? Or are the bolts a specific hardness? Should I get them from my local prop/...
