Re: Searching for a diesel 31
Can't remember where I read it, but I remember someone putting a port in the side of the engine box that they could open and spray a fire extinguisher into it. It was suggested that doing that was better than opening the hatch to fight the fire.

Carl Iveco is the other name for them. Pretty similar to Cummins. When I was repowering, the boat next to mine that was also getting done was a 28 Carolina Classic. The issues with an automatic system is that you need to have a engine shut down connected to it. Otherwise the diesel just sucks it all in and spits it right out, so it is useless.

Some of those lines and supports don't look like they can handle some of the stress that is put on them. More power to those guys.

Yannis I just had to have a survey of my boat which will be 50 years old next year. The insurance company wanted it to make sure she was sea worthy and to make sure the hull value on it is correct. Yannis The canvas is to protect the boat during the winter. Nothing worse than rain then it freezes on the boat and then there is the snow load. What is worse is some of the Marina's around here are beginning to lose their minds. One of the ones I thought about moving too, now no longer allows boats...

Yannis It's based on the boat size, by the foot. For our 31's it runs between $600 to $700 a season. In 90% of the cases, they don't need to build a frame to support the Shrink wrap. They have a special nylon roping/cordage they use to support the wrap. They run the cordage from the high spots on th...

Sorry you asked for weight. Given that a 31 comes in around 12,000 lbs with the fly bridge and full gas, I would guess the 28 comes without the bridge and cabin come in around 10,000lbs.

That's interesting that the Pile Mates extend the piling. I will have to look into them a little further. The issue I have is that during the summer the boat is docked behind the house. When I talked with them at the AC Boat Show, they told me the boat is supposed to be tied as tight as you can get the lines. One other thing, I was looking at the rudders on yours, and they looked like they might still be original. You might want to check the sizing on them and if they are original you might want to update them down the road. It makes a world of difference.

Ron 21 knots at 2000 RPM is not that far off. You should have pushed her up to 2200 to see what she would give you. If you hit 23 to 24 knots, then you would have been pretty much there.
