With all the traveling I have done in the US, Canada and even Europe I have never seen the Gulf OF Mexico.
Gotta get there one day! It is on my bucket list!

Tony... :-) I think it is a given that those of us who use power tools a lot are going to have accidents.. even when we are aware of the risks. Over the years I have cut off the end of a finger, cut a knee open, had several major cuts on my left hand, all of which caused some nerve damage, and from ...

The same thing happened to me several months ago.. had a 4" wire wheel in my side grinder.. it caught in the fabric of my tee shirt about 1" above my belly button, and before I knew what was happening it had wound up all the fabric and wire brushed an 8" long 3/4" wide strip across my belly. I was at the helm of a 44' sailboat en route from Bermuda to MA at 05:30 hrs when we lost our mast overboard about 185 miles south of Nantucket. We activated our 406 EPIRB and as far as we can tell the USCG (God bless them!) was on the phone with the owner's wife about 5 minutes after we flipped the...

UV... Happy Thanksgiving! Just an FYI for you when you consider new 8D batteries. When I rebuilt my 12 volt system (documented in my writeup on the B33 forum) I found that 3 Group 34 batteries will fit in one 8D box. I was able to go from 2 8Ds to 6 Group 34s and owing to the fact that 2 Optima Grou...

Words can't express the sadness we all feel. Sometimes we just have to accept the fact that certain things were never meant to be, even cruel things like the loss of a child. As part of my rebuild of "Phoenix" I ran new 120 volt circuits in the cabin. To be a good doobie I used GFCIs for each circuit. Later I ran a seperate circuit for an electric cooktop. This month's (November) issue of Soundings has a two page article (pgs 58 and 59) on a guy who rebuilt a Bertram 31.. his name is Bob Levesque, out of Madeira Beach, FL. The boat was originally a Virginia Beach patrol boat he bought in 2003 for $30,000. He says he probably has $250,000 in it now. Th...
