Re: 6BTA Cylinder Temp Question
John, I have Cummins 6BTA's (370's) in my boat as well and have asked the same question for the same reason. I have a few, somewhat random, thoughts on this. (full disclosure: I'm a diesel newb but reading / learning/ living it) First if you have not joined up over at http://www.boatdiesel.com" oncl...

Re: Replacement intake screen source??????
Dug, I went through the same thing this spring. It turned out that mine were made by Buck Algonquin which, oddly enough is local, but I had to order as they don't do retail. I think I ordered from an outfit in Miami. Shipping was super fast and I believe the parts were actually shipped by Buck.... Y...

Walter,
Glad you are OK! That surgery is tough, I had a buddy that went through it and he is tough as nails but it was no cake walk for him.
Hope you are 100% soon!

Just wanted to provide an update... The steering cylinder was bad for certain. I sent the offending part to Southern Charm on Monday via FEDEX, called them Wednesday, and it was done! They told me it had quite a bit of internal corrosion despite the fact it looked fine on the outside. I got it back ...

Hynautic Steering Question
Gents, This spring I splashed the B28 and she didn't want to steer to port. (much) I checked the pressure gauge and it was down maybe 5 lbs so I pumped it back up and found a small leak at one of the fittings on the helm just from being a bit loose. I tightened that and bled the system according to ...

John,
While its a bit more fufu than a stick (which worked fine in the plane for years) you might consider something like these:

I'm leaning this way on my B28.

Again, thanks for all the feedback! I got down to the boat yesterday and separated the flanges / couplers ( I have drive savers installed) I wasn't able to check the alignment with feeler gauges but I will do that next week. There did not seem to be any obvious or gross issues. The prop was not any ...

Transmission Question B-28
All, Last season I started to get a subtle whining noise form what I thought was my port side transmission. It only happened at idle speed in gear. If I added any power at all, say 100 to 200 RPM, it went away. The gears are 1:1.52 velvet drives behind SBC Crusaders. I was wondering if the issue cou...

I use the 100 low lead sweet smelling blue stuff in anything that sits or as my fuel stash for the days with no power. 100 LL is in my snow blower, chainsaws, push mowers, trimmer, generator and a few others. Boat is in one piece!
Reports from Rock Hall, MD are that the surge was minimal and now they are having a blowout tide. No blocked up boats were toppled. Kudo's to the folks who do the hard work at my marina (Haven Harbor) who pulled and blocked up 97 boats in 3 days! Thanks to all for your suggestions on preparing for t...

Well, the latest is to expect 4-8 feet of surge above ground level in my area. With the plug pulled, I'm OK to about 6 1/2 or so (guessing). I suppose even if I didn't fill up with water, and she floated off, the results would be just as disastrous so.... The canvas is coming down, plug pulled and p...

Boat is in!! (and a potentially dumb question)
With fishing season just a few weeks away my B28 went in on Monday! (Chesapeake) See ya winter..... Now for the dumb question.... I bought my boat ( B 28) this spring. It had been stored for two years with a full tank of ethanol / gas in Haverhill, MA. The previous owner had replaced the fiberglass tank in 2007 and filled it. Then it sat. So, this spring I had 165 gallons of two year old gas with ethanol but in a new tank. It ...

Yup, I got 'em. What are my options? Boat is a '77 FB B28. I'm thrilled to be the new owner and slept on-board for the first time last week.
