This is a great thread! Always good for others to understand the basic concept of designing a marine exhaust system that (as Tony A would say) not doomed to fail!

Be a little more specific. When you say ran between the fuel pump and the fuel filter....Are you talking about a fuel filter that is mounted on the engine? OR Are you talking about a primary fuel filter that is remotely mounted like a racor unit mounted on the bulkhead wall. The fuel line that would...

CPL 970, like Carl said but take it on the high side. 100 RPM OVER the rated RPM of the engines at WOT... NO LESS !!! That means you need to get 100 RPM over Rated RPM at your normal cruise weight / configuration. Including fuel, people, etc etc... Even underpropped like that you are still going to ...

Re: Dissapearing coolant
I second what Geebert asked. I would not add any coolant and and Keep an eye on it and see if it continues to go lower. It could be going out the exhaust from the "RAW" water side of the system thru one of the heat exchangers or coolers. It is NOT uncommon for 2 identical engines to behave different...

Try and post the question on sbmar forum. Tony Athens (who owns seaboard marine) redid a 31 Bertram named "SHOOTER" a few years back. They installed tunnels (at the owners request) and I think they mated it with yanmars. The Yanmars were high HP tho like over 400 I think... If you search it you migh...

I was looking at your pics of the engines and I do see the sensor. Give it a try. You might have to troubleshoot the dip-switches on the tachometer. Re: Faria tachometer on Yanmar
I dont know about Yanmars but I know that Cummins use a flywheel tooth counter that is a magnetic switch that screws into the bellhousing. They work very well and work on any flywheel as long as you have a threaded hole in your bellhousing. Look on the opposite side of the starter to see if there is...

Every one of those strainer holes are restricted from not just barnacles but from encrustation. I would ream every single one of those holes and maybe even increase to the next size up drill bit. Re: Overheating and a question about heat exchanger flow
Keep digging, there is def a prob in the raw water side...the risers should not get hot to the touch like that. Maybe you have an "air" leak and sucking air into the system and causing a cavitation in the raw water and not getting good flow when you are revving at your cruise RPMs and higher. Do you...

Is there a possibility that your water is being restricted from entering the system? Like the thruhull has some kind of a restriction? Whether it be barnacles or other debris. Rick, Is it possible that the hull on the 31 is more of a semi-displacement hull or deep-vee and not so much the same as a planing hull? Capt Pat in the article mentions it as a deep-vee with his own handwritten diagram showing the flow of water.

Your numbers are all pretty close across the board. Since you do have blow-by then suspecting tired rings is probable. Excessive carbon build up on valves and tops of pistons could also span equally across the jugs. These engines need to be run wide open for a bit also every trip out in my opinion. ...

Bayliss just posted some info and they are installing a 250 gal fuel tank. Looks like the seakeeper 3 will go in front of the tank as the pics showed a deck mock-up with a hatch right at the forward part of the cockpit floor. (I think it is a hatch for where the seakeeper 3 will go).
