Magnetic sender for flywheel tooth counter
I have cummins and they are wired for tachometers off the alternators. I have acquired a sender that is threaded that mounts into the bellhousing. It is part number 3039524 and is listed as such. It has a 2-wire plug. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was anything else that is need to set this...

Primary and secondary fuel filters "B" series Cumm
I am going to start setting up my 4BT's next month. I was wondering what some others are using for fuel filters. My engines (150HP 3.9M's) have cummins installed fuel filters that are mounted on the engine. Should I run another fuel filter between the Tank and the engines fuel filter? If so, then sh...

Oil Coolers ZF Transmission
I have ZF gears that are going to go behind B series cummins. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the cummins B series require an external oil cooler for the crankcase oil. I have a brand new pair of oil coolers that I was going to use for the ZF Transmissions. I am just a little confused abo...

A few yrs back I was working on a 60' Fire Boat for the New Years eve celebration. We tied up near the Statue of Liberty. I threw a 1" line to the dock (we had already secured a line on the bow) and the Pilot was throttling up to pull us in. I missed with my line and the INSTANT that line hit the wa...

Hurth ZF 45a
Anyone running a hurth zf45a or hsw450a (same unit)? The bottom bolt hole on each side is not capable of accepting a bolt. The "boss" casting of the transmission case does not have enough room to get a bolt in the hole. I put a stud on the 2 bottom bolt holes on the adapter plate. I then put a nut a...

Nice pic SIM. I remember taking pics of the lights when they first had them, very nice. I responded to the attacks, I was off duty (was working my other job). Time heals but we should never forget. Seen many friends die that day and was heart breaking to see 2 of them caught on camera walking into t...

I have heard that they are less accurate. They are OK to use and basically sync your engines while running. I can "feel" when my engines are in harmony without looking at the tach's but it is a good thing to have accuracy. If you need accuracy than you need some sort of gear tooth driven type tach s...

Looks good, I am cleaning up my engines as well, that paint is very stubborn to get off. I have been using stripeeze from ACE hardware, it works pretty good since the engine are apart and not in the boat. You can not use it in your case but I figure I would chime in to share info. I am going to pain...

I am leaning towards laying the engines in and see exactly how much clearance that will be needed and where. I was thinking if possible the hatch covers themselves could be cut and extended like a box. Then they could still lay into deck like original but they would have to be placed in and not atta...

Thanks Scot, I appreciate all advice even if its what I dont want to hear. I took measurements of my v8 gassers 350cid mercruisers and from the centerline of the crankshaft to the top of the heat exchanger is over 21 inches, the measurement on the 4BT is within an inch of being the same, now I am su...

Questions about repowering my 28 Bertram
I know this is site is for the 31's but the 28's are similar and I am sure we are on common ground. First off I have decided to repower my 28 with a pair of 4bt 150hp cummins. I have just finished rebuilding them and am going to drop them in some time this summer. Money is tight and I cant get crazy...
