Thank you guys for the replies. I will plumb the shutoffs directly to the inlet and outlet sides of the filters. I will also install a shutoff at the top of the fuel tank at the fitting. I think that it depends on how much usage it will get.

Once you add electrical components to it, it becomes another future headache. If it is going to get a good amount of use then by all means power it up.

Macerator is good if you are using it off shore a bit.

Ya I did try the sledge hammer.

Usually after a day or so and a little rest (physically and mentally) I should be able to tackle the problem and maybe pry it somewhere and get a lil better leverage than I got today.
