If I do install a primer pump I will use it. I did see the recommendation on there website and I dont see any reason why it would be a problem. I am sure the recommendation is because they will not warranty it in the marine environment, since many people will not solder and heat shrink connections e...

This is a cheesey diagram I drew with paint but it visualizes what I am talking about. The gray things are the "tee"'s red is starboard fuel line and blue is port. Green are the shutoff's. The purple line id the line that would be getting primed when the shutoffs are opened. They would normally rema...

small 12v diesel pump for priming?
I was wondering if installing a small fuel pump into the fuel system would be a bad idea. I figure it could be used to prime the system and be installed near the fuel tank. When I fired my engines up after the rebuild I used this pump to feed the system from a bucket of diesel fuel and it worked gre...

oil pressure safety switch
I was thinking about installing an oil pressure safety switch. I have come across a few but they seem to all cut-off at different PSI. I figure 10 PSI would probably be ok. Can anyone recommend one in particular? http://www.holley.com/12-810.asp 5PSI http://www.longacreracing.com/catalog/item.asp?id...

Thank you guys for the replies. I will plumb the shutoffs directly to the inlet and outlet sides of the filters. I will also install a shutoff at the top of the fuel tank at the fitting. I guess it is necessary to mount the filters above the level of the top of the tank???? There is room to do that ...

shut-off for fuel filters
Where should I locate shut-off valves on my fuel system.
I have racor 500fg filters and was not sure where to put shut-off valves. This is a new install. New tank, filters lines shutoffs......everything!
Thanks

This is what I am talking about, I have a these left over from my overhaul kit and did not use them. I am guessing cummins expects me to be using later style 7mm injectors. I have no idea which one I have to begin with but the CPL states my engines are from 1988. http://www.puredieselpower.com/catal...

7mm injectors on B-series "inserts"
I was wondering if anybody out there has an older B series with an old head. I was wondering about the copper insert sleeve things that came in the overhaul kit. I did a little research and am thinking that these somehow are used with the newer 7mm injectors in the older heads that had 9mm injectors...

Depending on your controls, it can be as easy as switching the orientation at the helm controls. If they are wrong it should not take you anymore than 15 minutes to switch them. As others have stated the ZF transmissions turn both ways. The ZF trans do not have a forward or a reverse, they just spin...

I have a pair of ZF45a's ib my B28. They are behind a pair of cummins 4BT's. As discussed in another thread I had to unfortunately replace the original gas tank, it was destroyed. If you do not have a gear plate tag, you may be able to turn the input shaft one full turn (in forward) and see how much the output turns. It may work. I dont have a lot of experience but cummins parts are pretty reasonably priced and there are plenty of aftermaket parts for cummins B-series. The B-series are very common and for good reason. Yanmars are excellent engines as well and I believe are a more compact design than the cummins. You do not h...

I can tell anyone that from recent experience, that you probably cannot grasp what ethanol does to the tank until you see it first hand. The gummy deposits that destroy your carbs and valvetrains is actually a mix of the ethanol and the fibergalss that it has digested and passed into the engine. Aft...
