With the 4BT's I had a 2 prop guys tell me I could run 1-1/8 shafts with the 150HP. I had to replace the shafts no matter what and ended up with 1-1/4 which was no problem the shaft logs and the factory struts are still being used. Going the Yanmar route will require LOTS of work probably above and ...

After the thermostats are opened put the RED dot of the laser on the brass housing of the sender, that temperature should be the same as your gauge to the helm. If it is not then the sender is either bad or not for the gauge you have. You said you have new gauges are the sender correct. It is possib...

It turns out NOT to be the banjo fittings. The leak is actually coming from the control cover gasket. That is the cover that the throttle and shutdown levers come up through. There is a few layers of paint and it was following the gasket and was hard to see. It definitely is not from the linkage. Th...

Possibly a bad coil wire to distributor? check the breaker on the engine near the wiring harness if there is one there (mercruisers usually do) do the wires that lead to the coil and ditributor...

I just got my B28 in the water from a long repower project and am very satisfied with the results. I am running 4BT Cummins 150HP. The boat performs good. The cruise with this setup will be about 20 knots. I do not have enough hours yet to see what the cruise RPM I will end up liking, 2400 is good a...

I traced a small leak on my cav IP and it seems to be coming from a banjo fitting. It only drip when running but is enough that I need to correct it asap. This particular fitting is one of the 4 (four cylinder in my case) and is where fuel LEAVES the IP. Right before the threads where the injector l...

Are we talking about cockpit controls or a lower station INSIDE the cabin? My B28 HAD a lower station INSIDE the cabin and I used it one time. It is GONE and I made up a new cabin layout adding cabinetry and counter space. The lower station that is inside on a B28 is useless IMHO. When the boat is g...

Anybody recently get a new GPS? looking for ideas
My GPS/Chartplotter took a dump, I was looking for something new. I like the Garmin GPSMAP-640, seems to be not so big but has a decent size screen, and is pretty low profile. Can be used on land as well, I dont know if that is good or bad. Looking to spend UNDER $1000.00 Frank I have a SI-TEX cvs10...

Here is what I did on a new install (engines tank filters lines etc...) I hooked a small 12v diesel pump right at the pickup from fuel tank and fed the entire system. The racors filled up and I cracked the fuel line where it hooks to the engine (in my case the lift pump) and this allowed all the air...

We are in the water finally after 3 yrs and countless hours. Ran like crap till we got to the slip. Valves needed to be adjusted, they were very tight on the tolerences. The port engine had an intake valve that came off the cup, thank god it wasnt bent. When we rebuilt the engine I thought the valve...

I am down to the final of final things to complete this repower project. I was testing the raw water system today, full 5 gallon bucket with garden hose supplying it. K&N Air Filter
I did a quick search here and did not come up with anything. I was thinking about using a K&N Aire Filter on my Holset Turbo intake on my 4BT's.
I was wondering if any of you 6BT guys were using them and if so maybe recommend a part number or an alternative?
Thanks
Frank

Its a tough call, I had a post in the ethanol section showing my B28 tank and what that stuff did to it. If your tank has no peeling or no other signs than your guess is a s good as mine if its going to be alright. If you are going to inspect the tank frequently then I would say go with it for now. ...

PSS shaft seal install ?
I installed the PSS on my Bert and was wondering how they keep the water out? The stainless collar with the set screws is pre-loaded against the black metallic fitting that has the hose barb on it. I have 1.25" shafts and preloaded to 1" as per PSS. That pre-loading holds pressure against the 2 surf...

rear deck is going back in after new tank
I was wondering what may be used to seal the rear deck when I lay it back down. There is a material that is very similar to 5200 or 4200 that was used previous. I am pretty positive whatever was used was put there when the boat was built new. What would be something to seal her up with? On another n...

On my Cummins 4BT Heat Exchanger there is a 1/2" threaded plug on the bottom of the unit. I amended my plan and it is shown in the previous post. This should work without all the redundant shutoffs like I was thinking early on. How about this: The two fittings off the main pickup tubes (the outside ones) have fittings that have check valves in them before the shutoffs. I could probably run it like this and not have to ever turn any valves. I can shut the valves if I had to though. I dont see any snags and fuel for the pump...
