Re: Fuel pump sight glass
Can you post a pic of what you have? I read it same as you and it looks like your sight-glass is what they are recommending as the fail-safe component. It should only have fuel in the sight-glass if the fuel pump fails. I have not had gas-inboards in many years and dont remember what my old Mercruis...

Yes, the 6BTA evolved over the years. Yours have the "Aftercooler" cooled by Antifreeze (coolant). Other 6BTA aftercoolers are cooled by Raw (seawater). Seawater provides colder water to cool the charged air that enters the combustion chamber where as the Antifreeze cooled version that you have cool...

Pictures are worth a 1000 words... With that said I dont know if that is orthodox or not but it sounds odd. Maybe a previous owner was worried about a clog of a strainer and could by-pass and use opposite side??? You could prob make use and have a crash valve setup or winterization access as you sta...

Yes, of course I wll be bonding the new hardware. BTW, I opted for new mushroom intakes and scrapped the clamshells. They were only going to be redundant and not needed. I marine-tex'd the bolt holes. The Groco backing pads sit on top of the old bolt holes and are 4200'd down so it is doubly-good......

I did speak to WIKA but I think it is a flat rate to repair and the cost was not conducive iirc. SBMAR has good gauges for $80 each. I will call wika again before I order. I dont remember actually what they said bc I was disgusted and it was before the winter.

Seems like the safest exhaust is the "over the top" design that Tony Athens has been pushing for years. I know Bob did it on Phoenix as well. Conchy-Joe on this board did it on his B28 w/ 4BTs also. I looked at Capt Pats write up on it. I am not up to that task. I would like to do it that way but building the box inside the hull I think is just too much for me (especially with my skill level). I have a handful of pretty big other jobs to finish up in the next month.
