maybe the bottom had already been stripped once before and they either didnt sand it after blasting or they did use skip-sand primer Would the "Skip-Sand" primer create a non binding issue if it had been applied incorrectly .. like to long a period before being top coated.. I comes off easily with ...

Anyone seen this before on a bottom..
Will be stripping bottom soon but was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this on their boats.. It's right on the gelcoat before first coat of bottom paint was put on .. Could it be some type of adhesion promoter.?? I doubt they had sandless primer back then... what ever it is the paint doesn...

My opinion but maybe a link to the articles and interviews.."just call him brew" etc.. would be good to see there... and as Buju mentioned some cleaner pics .. I have same problem on my web site with older scanned pics and my customers make comments...

Vic, If you really need time to kill.... one trick we have used successfully...drill from bottom a few places in area of de-lamination...obviously stop before bit pokes through substrate(safest.. wood block on bit) take another bit same size and flat bottom it on grinder... finish drilling through s...

Vic, How old is the top..?? Back in the late 90's there was a massive nationwide problem with contact adhesives failing from the Wilsonart Company.. We had huge problems with stuff coming off in sheets and the replacement glue would not stick to the old, it actually melted it .... Right after... the...

Bob, If you have access from below, I would do the same .. unless the curved piece still requires a nut from below to keep wood from pulling out screw.... For me where I always oil my teak, I countersink flush and install from above with no bungs.. I don't mind the look of the fasteners if they are ...

Pretty easy really and requires no lamination or steam binding... Since the curvature is fairly shallow, and the thickness of the wood strips are 3/4" or less, wet bending is a suitable substitute for steam bending. http://bertram31.com/misc/rail.gif Bob, ....Well there you go ..and Capt Pat gives ...

Bob, Sometimes you can't avoid the end grain, like on those flat corner pieces.... Bob .. The chunk of teak has to be glued up from thinner pieces to the desired block size... The end grain will show on the face as you cut through the various pieces to form the curve.....vs if bent, the same face piece is the only grain showing...again on a boat not a huge issue.... J.P. That whol...

Bob H .. We didn't use a solid block as J.P. but as a rule if you need to make a 90 degree 6" inside radius then at least that... plus the thickness of the material... If outside radius .. don't need to add material thickness to block... Inside radius....a big drum sander will be handy to finish off...

Note quite along the lines that you guys have done here but I've finally started taking small steps to get the B20 looking better... Although there are other things I should be doing first, for me, nothing has the instant gratification than adding some oiled teak pieces.. http://i224.photobucket.com...

Bob H, 4/4 is 1" rough, will finish cleanly at 13/16"+ , 5/4 is 1 1/4" rough, will finish cleanly at 1 1/16"+ if you plane both sides.. Not sure if you need to plane the backside completely, just enough to flatten it. I would think the rough face would give you a better surface for the epoxy to Bite...

Finally closing up both in/out through hulls from the old head and removing the plumbing in the B20, and the hull here is only 1/4" thick.
