I fully understand thinning the oil to help the pump but some old time diesel mechanics claim the inpurities in the oil settle on the bottem of the pan and warming the engine gets the particulate matter suspended in the oil for removal. It's convient when some of the boats have oil changing systems ...

Yesterday Linda & I decided to run out to 2200' and look for Marlin & Wahoo trying to avoid the bonehead (Bonito) bite. We set a spread of high speed Black Bart Wahoo lures and were chugging along around 17 knots getting close to the St Lucie Humps when the weather started closing in. Two big thunde...

Insurance Revisited
We just got a quote for insurance for our 63 31SF and I would like to see how it compares to what some of you guys are paying. Pete recently surveyed it and it has a average condition rating. $60,000 coverage is $2981.00 with a 8% deductiable ($4800.) This also includes $10,000 of personal equipment...

I would lioke to report the swim platform is one of the best additions we put on the boat. We used it this weekend when I dove under the boat for a bottem scrub. It's stronger than I thought, we allready used it as a bumper against a pole and not a scratch. Make sure you use good quality 316 SS hard...

Kingfish, you voided the guarentee and are at risk of sinking with the brass nipples. I know this first hand as a 32' Lhurs was hauled because a surveyer thought he was smater than the engineers at PYI and recomended changing them to brass. The result was the carbon blocks cracking and complete fali...

Thanks. The top is a 1/2" 4lb Divinycell, sides are 3/8 with 4 layers on the top and 6 on the bottem, I wanted to keep it light. I figure it weighs around 35lbs. I'm custom fabricating brackets out of 1/4" X 2" 304 SS flat stock and light weight stainless tubing to match the 15 degree transom angle....

B31 Swim platform
I spent the last week working on a custom swim platform for the summer season.
It was more work than anticaped but worth the effort. now I need to fabricate the brackets and install.

Tow Boat US is the way to go. I've heard too many horror stories about Sea Tow claiming boats as salvage after soft groundings. I had Tow Boat drag me back from the Bahamas last year no charge. It would have been a $4k bill with Sea Tow. Tow Boat US also offers 10 cent P/Gal discounts at many marina...

Brewester, she's running great! We went 0 for 1 on Sails yesterday with 1 nice Dolphin in the box. Typically rough 6 to 9 ft ground swells with a 3ft chop on top. A small skiff capized in the inlet and the dredging opperation is keeping everyone on their toes as their comming & going. They have he m...

Nows the time to bring you 31 into the new millenium and glass in fiberglass shaft logs. I like the fact that I don't have around 40 little holes in the bottem of my boat. The tips section spells it out for you. Capt Patrick likes to double up the fiberglass tube but a single tube works fine and pro...

I purchased black & white plexiglass and quick set glue from a local plastic supplier. After cutting the plexiglass to size I made a black, white, black layup and bevelded the edges and polished to look like a pick guard from a Strat. I targeted out the holes and used a Roto Zip for the tach holes a...

When Linda & I lived in Oregon we gave up windsurfing for sailing. When looking for a boat we told a broker we needed a boat that could handle up to 30 knotts of wind ( it's real windy in the Columbia Gorge). His reply, your not supposed to be sailing in 30 knotts. We picked up a Santana 22 migit oc...

Today we hung inside and and hooked up with the typical inshore fare. We plan on a trip to the keys next month, I'll keep you posted. Maybe you cou...
