I was watching Ship Shape today. The episode discussed how to install on board air conditioning. The raw water intake was installed through hull, with no seacock and run through a plastic bowl strainer.
Maybe I'm too cautious, but does that not seem smart to any one else on here?

Having had the opportunity to bob around in a life raft for a few hours I can tell you this. If its 8 men in an 8 man raft don't bring any tackle because after about 2 days you'll eat 2 of the weakest guys just to make more room. Most rafts come with some type of fishing tackle in them. Brewster is...

The fact that he has to ask after his experience on his first SeaDog makes me doubt his cognitive abilities. However, with that aside, there are many, many boats that lie in the spectrum between SeaDog 26 and Bertram 31. He has asked your opinion because he has doubts and wants some direction. You c...

Chum and a live herring or whiting used to be great. Chumming is also obsolete up here. Dog fish are so thick you can walk on'em. When the wind dies and the live bluefish gets down 10' the dogs will eat them alive. They'll eat a bare hook. Naturally the Feds have limited the catch on dogfish, and t...

Brewster you have got a nice routine, you must have very good mates that you can count on and trust. I have never seen the 200 mono trick, nice idea. Back in the 70's out of Montauk, Eddie Murray's ritual was spending the day rigging daisy chains of Mackerel with the hook sewn into the last one. Then out south of Block Island to slow troll two daisy chains, one from each corner of the stern just at dawn. The strikes were explosive. They'd be bac...

Listeria is also very bad and can grow in lots of places. Bait is a great place to start. Butterfish are held in holds on draggers that are not clean then frozen. You put the butterfish in a cooler or in a fish box. You throw bait and catch fish and now put them in the box or cooler. That fish is n...

There was a boat in the Hamptons not too long ago where the owner built up the helm area to accomplish the same effect. I also had ideas of making the deck so that the boxes would be eliminated. The two major drawbacks to this approach are, you would then have either a very sharp steep climb into t...
