Holy S--t. Thank God they're all right, that is scary scary stuff. I would like to blame an inexperienced boater but it was a tow boat no less. What were they doing on that boat? No one as a lookout, especially that close to the beach?

Therein lies a comon misconception about the purpose of cotter keys. Except, as Tony points out, unless a perfectly fitted castellated nut is used... The only thing a cotter pin does is keep a nut, washer, or spacer from coming completely off of a shaft. I once had an outboard wheel spin completely...

I suppose that it depends somewhat on the boat, props, etc, but the 3208T's on my B33 burn 20 GPH (both, so 10 GPH each) at 2400 RPM. So 7 GPH per engine at 2000 RPM sounds about right, but is way too low a number for two. Sorry, I assumed it was understood that was per engine. Making 14 GPH total.
