Picked up Dad's new toy this weekend
Well, Carl at Elite is an incredible craftsman, designer, and boatwright. The guy is truly incredible. We went to Elite and got Dad's boat, which Carl had completely rebuilt and customized from literally a stripped out, destroyed shell of a hull. A complete derelict bound for the trash heap when he ...

Ray I was there last year. It is by far the biggest event in the music industry. They also have a film festival and a software event that week. I have never purchased a boat from Whitewater. However I do know one of the owners and several of the sales people. I have steered a few folks there and I have never heard a bad report. I personally can recommend Andrew Dean as a sales contact at White Water. Andrew is a good kid who loves boats and...

jspiezio I said that on The Hull Truth and you think I committed a murder. A BlackFin owner jumped all over me telling me no way the Bert had a better finish. I remember getting on a BF at the NY Show and it was really nice. Had some features I wish my 31 had, but when I looked at some of the finis...

When they were new the finish on the 31 Bert was much better than on the Blackfin. I know that Bertram and Blackfin used the same gelcoat back then. There is a 32 in the yard I am in and mine is a 75 his was built in the 80's. Mine still comes up much better. I keep getting asked if it was just pai...

I keep trying to post them here, but I can't get it to work. I will try again. I do have Blackfin access, they are a great boat. I will go so far as to say that one member on here, whose name will never be divulged, has told me that he would actually prefer a BF 32 or 33 over his B31. Now, don't sho...

The last trip I took with my dad and Dick Dean was 2 1/2 years ago in the Hudson Angler's Tournament. I boated a 104 pound blue dog for my dad that he told me beat the crap out of him, but later I had fought a much larger fish that we lost in the running gear. However, while the fish was running, a...

Harry- if you land at Islip, you will already be 1/2 of the way out on Long Island. No bridges, no going near NYC. Islip is about 45 miles east of NYC. You will get in a car, or get picked up, and you will drive east for about 1 hour 15 minutes. You will drive through the Pine Barrens, through lots ...

Tom: It depends on where you are coming from. If from NJ, you wouldn't get as far East as Plum Island since you would probably go through the canal and the Peconic Bays to Greenport rather than making the transit around Montauk Point. If you are coming from the North, you could pass Plum Island on ...

Here is a closer look at the photo of the struts. It almost looks like there is just paint gone from the leading edge and the result is an optical illusion that looks like damage from this angle. Did the divers report that the struts were damaged? IIRC the divers had reported that the visible (starb...

I am in shock that the buoy is still in question. The radar reflector is not even bent. Their is no real damage below the waterline on the hull. Not a chain rub, not a dent, nothing to the bottom. The rudder post and strut damage l ooks exactly like damage sustained from impact with the bottom. The...

Boats just don't come apart like that. Has to have a good reason. From the description it almost sounds like someone had fun destroying it. Heck, even if Bertram was building half the boat they used to build it's built better than a lot of boats out there. They just don't come apart like that. Woul...

I do not know if that is the buoy or not, but if it is then shame on Bertram for claiming it took down a 63B. When I was a freshman in high school we used to run around in the 25B we had at the time. I ran fairly hard into the #2 buoy in Fire Island inlet with that boat one day while fishing with 2 ...

Back in the 70's when Stone Harbor Yacht sales was in business and selling the heck out the 31, they used to attach a piece leaning out like that, to the top of the windishield. Made it a bit higher which would probably make it knock down a little more spray. That is exactly what I am talking about...
