fiberglass tank question/ethanol
Been a while since I last posted. Sold my 31 last fall so I'm just now realizing I need to fill the void. I'm looking at a 97 Moppie with newer 454 gassers and original fiberglass tank. The current engines were installed around 10 years ago have about 350 hours on them. Broker reports no issues. Nat...

Re: FLOSCAN
Thanks for the news. My twinscan tach stopped working at the end of last season. Twin MC 454s. Port engine no longer registers rpms (starboard is good) but the synchro function still works so I've made do. My mechanic has determined the instrument is at fault. Does it make sense to get a replacement...

The dimensions of the existing bracket is 4" long (measured lengthwise) with each side 2" high. It is 5/8 thick. The thickest McMaster offers in the aluminum appears to be 1/4" which I imagine would work fine. There are several grade selections that looks appropriate. I'm leaning towards to Marine g...

Replacing this bracket
Attached is a pic of the bracket similar to what I want to replace. The bracket I need to replace is just aft of the port engine ( on the inboard side and joins a cross member with a stringer. If something similar exists please send me to the source. Or suggest an alternative. It's pretty heavy duty...

Re: advice for painting engine boxes & cockpit panels
Thanks, IRGuy. I'm having the paint done at an automotive shop with no advice on marine paints. But your info about the product differences is helpful. The engine hatches will get a fair amount of foot traffic on top so I want some durability.

advice for painting engine boxes & cockpit panels
Time has come to freshen my engine boxes and cockpit side and aft panels. I've found a supplier nearby with 3/8 Azek in 10' sheets for the side and aft panels and I'll use the old panels as templates. Not sure what paint was used by the previous owner who painted the entire boat just before selling....

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm frustrated that I didn't keep better notes back when I first saw the thread. As my aging memory recalls, the material that was used was not at all what you'd expect. Re: flybridge dash alterations
Hi Tony. Not the center area where the guages sit, but the lower dash on either side. The previous owner drilled so many holes in the glass for various radar, GPS fixtures, etc... that he eventually found it easier to fabricate a cover rather than fill in the holes. That's what I need to recover. If...

The box idea is interesting. Could definitely use more storage space and it would be easy to fit two helm seats on it instead of one bench as an option. It sticks in my mind I've seen something like that, maybe on this site.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Pete, the tank is the smaller 172 size. Not sure if I'll have the chance to get the existing gas out by the time you're able to come by. Ethanol free gas still useable in Fiberglass tank?
Two questions here. The original tank from my 31 was removed before E10. It's been 3 or so years on the hard with maybe 30-50 gallons of pre ethanol fuel in it. My Bad, Capt. I was referring to my scribbled notes when posting so I confused Arborite with my Masonite. Not only did I get the product wrong, I got the thickness wrong as well. A second reply to several responses. The Versatex at 5/8 is thicker than what I currently have. Not a deal breaker if the price is good. But also limited by the 4' sheet height. A higher 5' high piece could be ripped to length meaning one sheet is all I need to cover both sides. The Arborite (accord...
