The only guys who will know for sure are the old Bertram Guys. Don't think any of the old staff is left that we can probably track down through this site. However, I agree with everyone else, not a Bertram Hull. Really does look like an old Uniflight. They were supposed to be fire proof as well as ...

Capt Pat,
If the tank has already suffered some damage, can it be cleaned satisfactorily and then be used with ethanol free fuel? Can I assume the only way to tell if the tank is damaged is to remove the inspection plate and actually look into the tank with a light?

Well, I guess sooner or later the consensus is that they will fail. Will a good fuel filter system protect the motor? If the filters are watched frequently and changed...can this avoid the damage to the engines?

Will ALL original 31 FG tanks from the 60's/70's eventually go bad with ethanol or do some survive. If some survive, why?

The 454's are well known gas hogs but is there a difference in fuel consumption between the older carbureted engines and the newer multiport fuel injection models

Rawleigh,
I thought that the lettering might be enamel. Would acetone hurt the awlgrip or Imron painted hull if you were to use it to remove the enamel lettering? I would try a small area first but just wondering if you might know.

Is it possible to remove the lettering on the stern without damaging a painted hull. Specifically, a hull painted with Imron or Awlgrip or do you have to sand and repaint. I've used oven cleaner to remove the lettering on gel coat without damaging the gel coat but I think this method would also remo...

Does anyone have experience with over the road transport of a 31 with a tower? I know the tower has to come off but most towers I have seen look to be one or two pieces that do not really come apart. How do they get the boat and the tower to you? Is it taken off and strapped into the boat somehow or...

Its because of this scam that I dont order grouper except in a few restaurants that I know well. If I want grouper I go to the local fish market where I can order a few pounds and watch them fillet the whole fish in front of you- does cost $20/lb though.

When I was a kid, I worked at the Watch Hill Boat Yard in Westerly, R.I. This was around 1968/69. I remember a guy had a 31 that was a funky pink/coral kinda color. Maybe you could get pretty much what you wanted from the factory in gelcoat?

I'm new to this forum. I owned a 31 FBC which I sold about 7 years ago and have regretted it since. I am currently looking to purchase another 31. I have heard that the earlier 31's were built a little "heavier" in the hull and that they are more desirable than later ones. Can anyone comment on the ...
