Re: 20 or 26 Bertram opinions

Peter I really enjoyed your post and your attitude. I am very familiar with the ins and outs on the rounded over and V heels. I have had both and can easily live with either. I believe the 24 was a Napier. It planes easily even with a load and 5 people sitting on the back seat. I tend to cruise at 2...

Re: 20 or 26 Bertram opinions

Although much less common, I believe the 24 is the pick of the litter in the 20-26 foot range. My personal taste gives them a thumbs in appearance and I believe the V to heel has benefits over the rounded keel of the 20 & 25. The 24 had no foam when built and the stringers were completely encapsulat...

A few extra suggestions.
1. Widen the engine bay in the rear floor if you intend to use either a V6 or V8 (aprox 36" overall width)
2. Raise the drive cutout when you redo the transom. X plus 1'' will work welll.

I did both on my 24 Moppie and have been very satisfied with the results.

Get some Multistrip paint remover from local hardware or paint store. It will not harm fiberglass. Easy to use. Takes about 24 hours to work but is effortless and effective.

Thankyou for all of your possitive comments. I am really thrilled with this boat. I hope to finish all the interior trim and accessories in the spring.

John
I bought this as a stripped bare hull a year and a half ago. Before I got the boat it had a straight 6 like most of the smaller Bertrams.

She's running a Mercruiser 383 Magnum MPI and a Bravo 1. The engine only has about 17 hours on it but cruises nicely at 2700 RPM and just over 30 MPH and depending on prop tops out at 4650 to 4800 and well past 60 MPH This engine has been a most pleasant surprise. I have run big blocks in my previou...

Just a little update. This is still an ongoing project but I had it up running for 2 months before storing for the winter last weekend. I hope my updating and minor customization do not offend any of the "faithfull". The 24 is truly pretty boat that performs very well. http://i747.photobucket.com/al...

Again, thankyou everyone. This is the image I have recently put on the B24 I am restoring. My sister in law wanted to sew some things for the interior and incorporate the logo. The better the resolution of the image the better the quality of the finished item.

Does anyone have a digitized copy of the Bertram logo with the bird and V over the name Bertram to share?

I am pretty sure that if this hull was ever used in competition that it would have been in the later 60's

Buju - this is 1971 and not the one from Wisc. - it was a pop up front camper version. This one is the Moppie II and came from the Boston area and originally from Florida.

The hull I have just started working on is the "Moppie II" version with no camper bow. I am a big enthusiast of the hulls that are "V" to the heel, having previously owned a 25 foot Magnum Marine for a dozen years. The aft 2/3 of this hull is almost the spitting image of the 24 foot Cigarette, only ...

Is there anyone on here with any knowledge of the origins of the 24 foot hull? :?:
