I have a 79 38 with mechanical 450cs. Great comb, 20-21 kts at 2000 29 on pins 2600+ depending on bottom. The boat feels more tender than my 31 more like a great big 28. Big pit big salon, funky head idea in the v birth( gone I mine) . Call me 7722406146. I'm traveling now will b home saturday, Bill

Bob, love to hear details of the project, having had mt 38 for almost 3 years any new approaches would be interesting. The idea of the qsm is cool, I often liken this hull to the old formula hulls of the early eighties. I think this hull is much more adaptable to higher horsepower than the 31. We ju...

Bob, I hope the asp is 425, not 725, regardless the 38 is a hefty boat and I think the c series may have the torque required, I do defer to your expertise but I've had a 38 for 2-3 years and a high horsepower b may be a little light

I seriously looked at the 37 a couple years ago, the cat boat was a 18 kt. Boat, the 6 92 boat was better, yet with the inherent mx, fuel usage , and noise probelems. I found an older 38 with 450 cummins. 21-22kts, 28 pins, but much more space in salon, engine room, bigger cockpit. Just not those se...

I've been on cat #1 on the Saratoga and had green water come over the bow just before the Cat officer touched the deck. A wee bit wet. J79s don't care. Any boat can be wet, it's just how you handle it.

Don't mean to rain on the Keys parade, but that beautiful green water years ago, wasn't so green, much more bluish, like in the Bahamas. It's all a result of the phosphates and fertilizer that has fed the algae growth. I've been here since the early sixties and unfortunately degradation has occurred...

I had a 28 with 305 Chevys, Mercs. 17 kts. 21 downhill. If I had to choose, I'd but in some efi 350s keep it simple easy, cheap. No changing engine beds , starts, shafts, tweet the props and enjoy the $10000 investment. Read Kevin's post again. I repeat, read Kevin's post.
