Re: 31 Soft Top Express - Fuel Tank Size
You also want to consider that the tanks are molded to the shape of the hull. The manual on my old 28' actually had a translation from gauge reading to approximate fuel remaining. 1/2 full means that the level is 1/2 way from bottom to top, not that you have used 1/2 of the volume.

Captain Patrick, It has been an honor sir. I only met you a couple of times at Rendezvous but enjoyed every minute. While I seldom posted, I was on the site almost daily just to read and learn. I first came upon this site thinking that I could learn more about a great boat. I did, but along the way ...

Re: Battery charger
I bought a Pro Mariner 12-40P last summer with the idea of upgrading over the winter, but then I sold the boat. The new one already has a 40 amp charger, so its just sitting in my basement. It must be installed in a dry location, but if you're interested let me know.

Re: Crows Nest needs to be a little slower for trolling
While slow trolling is ideal, you can still get bass trolling 3.5-4 kts. I've been trolling spoons in the bay with the new boat and seldom am able to get under 3.5 kts, even with 1 engine. I am still picking away at the stripers. I would try trolling against the tide or cross current before putting ...

Re: LED light bulbs for home. Extremely pleased.
Costco has some 4' LED work lights. Picked up one yesterday and it really is bright. They also have bulbs that supposedly can be plugged right into existing fluorescent fixtures. I didn't buy any, but it is tempting. http://www.feit.com/led-lamps/LED_Linear_Tubes

Cummins QSB 425 question
I'm looking for my next last boat, and have my eye on a 35' Henriques. Boat is a 2006, powered with Cummins QSB 425s. Engines have 1950 hours. I will, of course, have the engines surveyed. Hoping I can get some good info from the experts here on anything I should look for in particular, as well as a...

Agree on the distance. The important thing is differentiation. How clear is the stuff that is near you. The Furuno open-arrays always offer a very clear view and let you distinguish individual objects. Don't know who does that best with the newer technologies.

Peter. There is no need for a dedicated thru-hull. Both Rule and Attwood make small pumps that are designed to tee into an existing system right at the valve and the volume is small enough to make no difference. If you buy, Kodiak makes some good units. I always just ran the water out thru the scupp...

I haven't done it in years, but you can take the Spuyten Duyvel from the Hudson River to the Harlem River and not have to go to the end of Manhattan. Of course, you would miss the views, including the Statue of Liberty if you do, but it will save a lot of time.

Looney Tuna was always plenty big for me, but now I have a 90lb lab that takes up the whole cabin floor. Found a 31 Tiara that looks promising and need a good surveyor. Any suggestions?

You'll need one line for each engine. Use the blue fuel line. I think 3/8" will be large enough. Add shutoff valves between the pickup and the lines. You need to shutoff the fuel when changing racors. You are also going to need return lines from each engine. Check at the front of the tank, along the...

I had a temp issue with my starbord engine (4BTA cummins). The temp went up over 200deg, then would drop. stayed down for a while, then repeated. I wasn't losing fluids, seeing smoke etc. Port engine stayed constant at 180. I replaced the thermostat, and just to rule out the temp gauge as the proble...
