Re: Bertram 25 Weight...for towing
I would honestly be shocked if the boat he is describing weighs more than 4500lbs. I had the exact boat that he is describing and it was not over 5000lbs. 25ft Bertrams are light bare hulls. They are very well constructed but they are not heavy boats. This is backed up by the spec sheet as well. The...

It will be close. Depending on how your rig it. I would do it for 20miles as long as the trailer had brakes. Any longer and I would say get a bigger tow vehicle.

Keep on eye out for these numbers. I would theorize the end numbers are above 45mph at WOT. Looks like a nice set up. Another guy on classicseacraft just did a 25bertram with twin 115hp and is very happy with the performance. http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/588918-1961-bertram-25-moppie-re...

Good news. Sept is still a great month.
I made myself a promise that next summer is going to be different in terms of work/social life balance. This winter I will get her in shape and next summer I want to use the boats twice as much.

I am really impressed how the rear pillar came out. That must have been a lot of glass and time/effort.
Well done.

The new 150hp Mercury is a completely new and different beast. 3.0 liters and only 150hp. Same displacement as your current engines. It can swing a 16 inch diameter prop as well. Give them a good long look as they are new.

That boat has been around for years. If you wait a few weeks you will find a nice hull cheaper as they are always coming up. I keep looking at the 31 bertram fire hull in MA for 2k and daydream of turning it into a moppie with a single OB.

Sorry to hear about your trouble Peter. That stink especially with a lot of the summer still left. My advice would be to pull the engine and have it rebuilt or find a matching used twin. That would be the quickest and simplest fix to getting you back on the water. The problem is that all new gasolin...

Modern twists on a classic hull are always welcome and keep interest in the best hull. The best part of this boat is the 3 ft hull extension that is built into the bracket. I am pretty sure they are triple v6 300s not v8 350s.
I am an outboard guy but agree the third engine is a complete waste. The hull does not require that much power to hit 45+mph. Twin 300s like Targeted Species is more then enough power.

LOL. Different strokes for different folks. I love it and thing it is very useful. Not everyone fishes in 10ft with breaking seas. I agree that the crapper is not ideal but for a day boat I dont see many other choices.

You can even leave those holes. The water would have to be really high in the bilge to pass water. That would be the least of your worries at that point.
You can see the step up at the bottom of my picture, That height continues until just before the engines front pulley.

Replace the tank deck just as it was from the factory. Epoxy mat onto the top and bottom and glass it back into place for a flat surface for the tank to sit on. The bilge water will still travel under that tank deck like it did originally. This allows the front compartment to drain to the rear. It d...

All depends on your plan for the boat. If you are keeping the boat for the long run and can see yourself owning the boat for 7+ years then I would say the time and effort is well worth the cost.
Since most of the systems are suspect right now, you will need to review them anyway.

The new 3.0 liter from Mercruiser are MPI and must come with a cat converter due to the EPA. That makes them much more expensive but they do get better fuel economy.
A single small block MPI 6.2 with a bravo 3 will give you better performance then the twin 3.0 liters.

I would argue that the 20-25 Bertram would be the best addition instead of the 26. You can power the 20 or the 25 with a single outboard or sterndrive to simplify the process. This will allow you to keep it simple (single engine, single battery) and also keep cost down. If you are going with a 20ft ...
