You can design an aluminum tank that will bolt in and allow plenty of drainage, adding drainage fore and aft Even poorly made, raw aluminum tanks in less than ideal installat...

Pete a lot of boats have 12v vent windows, radar arches, even RVs. getting the parts wouldn’t be that bad and since the windows are already plastic even if you had to drill them wouldn’t be a big deal. 12v actuators make more sense. this way they not only hold them open but also keep them shut

I agree everything should be closed up when underway but not everyone likes to sit in a closed up cabin. I think gas struts will end up failing quickly if you ran the boat with them open

Re: original steering wheel

refinishing the original aluminum wheel is a bit of labor of love if its pitted.
First it needs to be blasted clean, high build epoxy primed.
Then likely a little bit of bodywork. Primed again, then painted and cleared.

its fairly simple work, just time consuming.

The story I was told was that the windows were finished for each boat on the boat as it was made, not constructed beforehand. Which is another reason no window insert or prefabbed frames will just slide right into another boat.

Re: Gas Struts on Engine Box covers?

Those are hydraulic or electric lifts, not gas struts. Very nice pieces in all polished stainless steel. I see heavy single (and double) gas struts rip out all the time. The lifting force puts equal strain as you try to lower it. Angle brackets mounted to the edge rip off, mounts on the box rip off....

Maybe perforated canvas like phifertex that snaps on. It allows you to see out and keeps some heat off. Without quoting all the responses, the paint would be flexible, and I find a long stainless screw in the nozzle of a tube of caulking allows for good storage and easy removal (the screw) later on. Stick it in a fridge even better. A piece of wire or caulking saver also does good to make up large gaps
